Break-up News: CVS/Caremark Split

I suppose it is of no surprise that the roll-out of the new patient care programs utilizing the Caremark PBM at CVS retail have occured. Not only are they looking to increase profits, but also want to prove that the merger shows practical benefit to the consumers.

They should definitely be showing some increased profits. "Retail fills at CVS only" or "retail fills not allowed, please contact caremark."

well this isnt as exciting as the idea that the govt would break up cvs/caremark..

sounds like some businesspeople trying to pull an ezetimibe style numbers game. 😴😴

reminds me of AOL-Time Warner but this isn't even 1/4 as bad as that debacle was.

No. This was the plan from the beginning. The entire purpose was to create a health care company that could offer a wide range of services to prospective clients. The problem was they didn't realize what a ****ty company Caremark was and it took them much longer than expected to clean it up. I don't think they're done with it yet either.

Getting a client at retail is a one at a time proposition. Getting a client at the PBM level is at the thousands at a time proposition.

Do you work in healthcare? Restricted markets are the norm. Plans restrict what doctors you can see, what drugs you can take, what hospitals you can go to. Why is it so shocking they would restrict what pharmacy you can go to?

I'd have to agree with this, it is a "not cool" aspect of health care but to be fair, this is the case throughout the industry.
