Hey all. Few months into the big dance, I was wondering if you guys have been hours compliant. I know I haven't. I'm not complaining, just an observation. It's been tough to get all my work done under 80 hours, and you feel like a jerk handing your fellow interns on call a long list of things to do/need followed up on. I've probably been closer to 85-90. How you guys doing?

By the way, I don't care what the old timers say, 90 hours is still a LOT.

No argument frm this old-timer...it IS a lot of hours (even if we did more while trudging uphill in snow both ways to work)!😉

I was the one who threw a chunk of ice at your head.

You're really going to blame JCAHO for the fact that a majority of training programs are run by ******s and *****s? I mean, JCAHO isn't helping, no doubt, but let's not forget: BIG PICTURE.

I corrected your strabismus, didn't I?

But now I hear music whenever I try to focus.

That's an improvement over the sound of the ocean most wimmen have, isn't it? You can pay me by check or major credit card.

Uh ...turkleton?

I was lucky, my program had a PD who was militant (and military) about the hours. It took a year or two, but the culture changed and we had few problems with hours (even with our neonatology attendings). Our senior residents made it their job to watch the 'terns hours. It worked out ok. Until a program does something like this from the "top down", it won't change. Unless your program is like this, the only thing to do is make anonymous complaints to the ACGME/RRC. Just keep you head down and make sure noone can identify you.
