Hi, was hoping you all could help me with an issue. I'm a pgy-1 and I thought about transferring programs, had a long discussion with my program director and he was supportive of the change, but in the end, I signed a contract with my current program for pgy-2 year. However, I really don't want to stay at the program any longer for personal issues, would it look really bad to break the contract at my instiution for my PGY-2 year, and transfer now?

Who cares if it looks bad? The new program wouldn't take you if they didn't want you, and the old program wouldn't let you go if they were A-holes. Just make the change, be happy, and get rid of the stress so you can move on to bigger and better things.

who cares if it "looks bad?" if you have an offer for next year, it shouldn't be a problem. plus, if your current PD is supportive of the change, you aren't burning any bridges anyway.
