i'm so confused... what are you trying to ask? it's a legal matter so it depends on the state, not sure what that has to do with an MD....

i mean most women in medical careers are already "well-established" by the time they become doctors, not merely by their medical degree but also publications, certifications, etc. so after all of that getting your name changed everywhere after legally changing it seems hard..worth the effort?

i have a feeling a lot of women don't change their names if they already are well-established in their field, or they choose to hypenate.

A lot of the ones I know of don't change their name. Some do two last names, so they can sort of take their husbands name and still be recognizable with respect to publications, etc.

If you do a search in the residency forum there have been posts about this with more info than most of us are going to have.
