ok, so i'm pretty sure at this point that im not a very strong applicant for med school. however, i am a bit stubborn and i do not want to consider a masters just yet. so does anyone know of medical schools with bridge programs that i can research? i know of the one at fsu and georgetown but im wondering what others may exist.

Georgetown has a non-SMP pre-med bridging program? News to me.

Drexel has an agreement with Robert Wood Johnson, but I think that is for people with very strong academic records who just take the pre-reqs at Drexel, do very well, and then are accepted. Try UPenn Special Sciences program and maybe Columbia. Harvard Extension, Goucher, Dartmouth, all seem to have good track records of getting their undergrads into med school. Finding a statistic on how many of them had low GPAs first, however, will prove difficult to obtain.

I don't think any of them have linkage programs, if that's what you mean by a "bridge". A lot depends on the OP's GPA, what courses s/he has already taken etc. This thread really belongs on the postbac board -- there are likely more people with info there.

I'm unsure what you mean by a "bridge" program. I'm unaware of any postbac programs that gives automatic admissions to their medical school based on post-bac performance, if that is what you're looking for. However, most postbacs are extremely successful at getting their students into medical schools.

If you're suffering from a low GPA, you shouldn't be pursuing a masters degree anyway. A postbac will help you much more to bring your GPA up to that magical 3.5 gate.

What the OP is talking about is a program that's available at both FSU and Wake Forest. I haven't heard of it being offered anywhere else. How it works is someone applies to med school. They aren't accepted for that year, but are accepted for the following year IF they successfully complete a program set up by the med school for students who would make good doctors but fall short for one reason or another. They are guaranteed admission the following year if they complete the program with a certain GPA. Usually, only about 6 or 7 people are accepted to the bridge program.

I assume you're a student at FSU, so I would focus on that route as far as bridge programs are concerned. I don't know what your stats are, but I assume it mainly has something to do with gpa; mcat can always be fixed. I would definitely apply to the FSU postbacc bridge program; Don't exactly know if you need a certain gpa to qualify, but if you can pull off a B average there you've got a slot opened for you in med school.
