Bringing a guest to Buffalo

The interview letter from Buffalo states... "If you wish, you may have your parents or another individual closely involved with your career decisions accompany you on your visit."

My girlfriend will be moving with me to where ever I end up at school, and would love to come and see Buffalo. Does anyone know the extent to which they include the guest you bring? Do they only come on the tour, or are they included in all of the activities and presentations? Do you also think it's preferred they DON'T come? I won't want to seem weird bringing someone if I'm going to be the only person there with a guest. Then again, why would they offer the ability to bring a guest in the first place?

Thoughts?
 
My interview group had 12 kids. 2 out of those 12 brought guests. One brought his dad and the other brought his girlfriend. They basically do everything you do but the actual interview and case scenario. They sit in on the info session, the student panel, go on the tour, and then eat lunch with everyone. In my opinion, it wasn't weird at all. Everyone was super friendly and laid back, and it seems like Buffalo is just courteous like that. They even sent a thank you email to the interviewees after the interview. I think those 2 things--option to bring a guest and the thank you email-- actually impressed me a lot and says a lot about the school (or at least the admissions office...). Everyone there (faculty/staff/students) seemed pretty happy and I think that Buffalo tries its best to make sure their students feel supported. I guess that starts with admissions office. I would bring her if it's important to you and her, because I don't think Buffalo cares either way. At least bring her to Buffalo and explore the area. It's a pretty chill city and you can always go to Niagara or Toronto while you're there.

Yep I think my friend brought his parents and his girlfriend! My mom is coming to mine lol so hopefully it wont be weird!

I'm bringing my Dad! I'm hoping other dads come the same day so they can make friends and we don't have to entertain them :laugh: I already gave my dad a set of rules, like not making any jokes.

Haha don't worry about the jokes. A dad at once of my interviews was very outgoing, probably made the most friends, and probably will be remembered by the most people.

Thanks shootingstar. I feel better about my decision now. If my Dad can't resist the urge to make a nonfunny joke, I won't be completed mortified. :laugh:

That is a good attitude to have. My dad's favorite joke, which I do not find funny, is: "What do you call a dentist that graduated at the bottom of his/her class? A dentist" :laugh: It's super awkward.

haha. Its not bad. Its actually an anti-joke kind of, which I find funny. People tend to wait for a witty punchline and instead you slap them in the face with reality. I see my self laughing at that for sure. The awkward ones are the puns.
 
When are your interviews? I'll be out there with my girlfriend on December 7th. Does anyone know how post December acceptances pan out for Buffalo? Are they one of the schools that fills most of their class on December 3rd?
 
If I remember correctly, the Dean of Admissions told us at lunch that they fill about 75% of their class from acceptances on December 3rd. I think he said it's a combination of waitlist and post-dec interviews to fill the rest of the class, but don't quote me on this last part. He'll tell you at the interview day. Good luck guys!

Interviewing January 10th. Guess, its a 25% shot. Whatever, still worth an airplane ticket.
 
Guys don't just bring your parents, don't forget about grandpa and grandma and your neighbors too.

Is there a ratio of how many internationals are interviewed/accepted?
 
Just be careful and talk to your parents before...a mom and a dad hijacked a q&a period during my interview as if they were having a conversation in their living room. If your parents have a ton of questions tell them they'll have plenty of time at lunch to talk 1 on 1 with students/faculty. I had a bunch of questions and had to wait because the mom was curious if there was an ikea nearby

^^ Interviewing Jan 10th as well... I seriously hope its more then 25% of their seats left... thats what 20 spots with a class of 90?
