how many of you dental students actually bring your laptop to classes and how often? how helpful are they in class? I love desktops and I'm going to buy a new computer before i start dental school next fall and im debating between a desktop and a laptop. should i do it or stick with the pen and notebook? I figured we would need to write down notes anyway so a laptop would just be in the way. If the lectures were on powerpoint, I could just print out the slides and write on them anyways right?? What do you dental students who have experience with this think?????

If you dont have a laptop, then you cant play on the internet or IM your friends during class. That could make for a very boring day.

I can't read my handwriting when i write fast so I use a labtop for notes during class. It's way more organized in my opinion. Then when I study for a test I print the slides out and write notes on them.

I also dont know which one to buy. Desktops are sooooooo much cheaper, and reliable, but laptops are more convenient.

What I want to know (especially if you go to Maryland) is if dental students actually NEED it??? How does having a laptop make you life easier in dental school?

Thanks

I use a laptop, but i never take notes, and because the laptop, i never pay attention to classes. Just like right now, I should be listening to someone talking about problems that orthodontists face with mouth breathing.

I remember during my interview at NYU, we walked into the auditorium full of D1 students. Half of students had laptops open, and everyone of them was doing something “relevant” to class.... packman game, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, eBay… watching porn on a tiny window 🙂 😀

I go to Maryland. You don't really need one. I print out the powerpoints and write notes on them. If I even bring mine, I mostly just surf and IM during class. It does come in handy for getting some work done during gaps rather than having to fight off all the people playing warcraft in the comp lab.
