Hi all! i just joined this forum and would like to ask you pharmacists a question i have been pondering myself for a while. it seems, that in general, that most people who go into pharm are the ones who could not get into medical school. i myself got into medical school(s) recently, so i am not in this boat. is this generalization true of your experiences in pharmacy school?

We have a couple of former med students, as well as engineers, teachers, MBAs, master in chemistry in the class.

If I were to make a generalization about pharmacists is that they want to make a 6 digit salary for 40 hours a week work.

Well...when I was in school, half of the class only had two years of undergrad work, thus making them "med school rejects" an impossibility. Not to mention that it's pretty much just as hard to get into medical school as it is pharmacy school, anyway. If you can't get into med school...chances are you won't get into pharmacy school, either. Though I've seen people who got rejected from one, get accepted to another. Both pharm rejects getting into medical school and vice versa.

I've also found that a large subsection of students just don't like the idea of touching people, hence they chose pharmacy....which would describe me. I've never given a morbidly obese man that hasn't showered for 4 weeks a rectal exam. I enjoy knowing that it shall remain that way.

A lot (A LOT) of women also choose pharmacy because they can start a family while they are young. I'm talking 24 year olds who can work 24 hours a week and make more than the average American. Or even just knowing that you will ONLY work 40 hours with no pager on your hip.

I had the impression the social status/importance among health care professionals was 1) Doctors
2) Dentists
3) DOs
4) Nurses
5) Volunteers (high school or higher)
6) Physical Therapists
7) Pharmacists
8) EMT technicians

Clearly, you did not take that into consideration.

I've seen a few people in which this is the case (pharmacy students wanting to go to med school), but overall, I think this is something that some MD's think as an ego boost to themselves. I have never had the inkling to go to med school, it does not fit me.

So...I would say that in general, your statement is NOT the case.

Lol...thank God for EMTs. Jesus, you're not even a GOOD troll. Somebody go get Taurus or that podiatrist guy over here. We need to school this youngin on how to talk smack.

I should have stayed a volunteer then! Why did I get good grades and graduate from college for? I would have outranked physical therapists, pharmacists and EMT techs!!

By far, the worst troll ever.
