I want to see lesnar vs. fedor emelianenko... Hehe, FEDOR WILL CRUSH HIM!

Long time lurker here, MS2, looking towards anesthesiology as a likely career path, I have been soaking up the knowledge that flows so freely here..... just haven't had too much of my own to post....

But I know Brock Lesnar - I guess I should say I knew Brock. I used to wrestle with him back when he was in Junior College in the sprawling metropolis of Bismarck, ND. He has always been an absolute physical freak. When I knew him he was smaller - about 6'3" and 260 - but he only had about 7% body fat at the time. He used to just destroy people in wrestling, myself included. He is alot heavier now - he may have "weighed in" at 275, but he doesn't weigh 275.... he is probably closer to 300. Just a beast. It won't surprise me if he continues to dominate the UFC for sometime - although I will say that he will probably be susceptible to a really smart Jiu Jitsu fighter who can handle those heavy hands long enough to catch him in a submission hold. I just don't know if a fighter like that is out there right now.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the always stimulating and mostly educational discourse that takes place here, it has been a pleasure to read!

I have to second this notion! Fedor is the shiznit. He is like 30 something-0 record. If he fought Lesnar, once on the ground, with Fedor's superior Jujitsu skills Lesnar would tap by the end of the 1st-2nd round. Just like with Mir. Also Broch probaby couldn't make it more than 2 rounds, he would ware down too fast. Lesar has a contract with the UFC so we probably wouldn't see this fight for years to come. Although even better the Arlovski Vs Emelianeko fight in JAn is a can't miss event.

Yes. I agree. Fedor superior jujitsu and "SPEED" will trumph Lesnar's massive striking ability. However...I think Lesnar can catch Fedor off guard if he can stay off the floor with a good strike (slim chance but possible).

Arlovski is good for Fedor....since Fedor will need American's recognition in order to convince the UFC & Affliction for a profitable cross over fight i.e. NFL vs. AFL in pro-football.

Hopefully, Dana White will lighten up and put on a show for us MMA fans.👍

I agree with you guys, Fedor is an animal and the heavyweight division is his to lose until proven otherwise. I don't think that there is anyway that Brock beats Fedor in the near future.

That being said, give Lesnar some time to learn. I would like to see him get into a little better condition. In his (real) wrestling days, he was one of the best conditioned athletes that I have ever seen. But, with his added weight and the fact that MMA fighters train on a level that is beyond that of even top-flight collegiate wrestling, I think that his conditioning is sub-optimal for a match against someone of Fedors caliber. Second, he needs some first class BJJ instruction and time to soak it up. He needs to train with someone who is a threat to submit him at any moment, and learn to eliminate his mistakes. Move on to a fight or two against submission-heavy fighters - Nogueira or Mir rematch. Finally, he needs to improve his stand-up footwork to go along with his striking power. If he can successfully do those things, then I think Fedor v. Lesnar could be one of the great fights in MMA history.

Ive never seen a man as big and quick as Lesnar. I dont care what Fedor's record is. By the time they fight, I'll take Lesnar. That is just a lot of man to handle.

Fedor is the hardest hitter in all of MMA. Tim Sylvia, although more awkward than Lesnar is about the same weight and 6'8" and was crushed by Fedor in 36 seconds. Lesnar would likely take Fedor down as his wrestling is obviously superior but Fedor's back game is really slick. I say he would have Lesnar tapping from an arm bar pretty quickly.

Glad you're here, Dude.

Heres my hands down favorite UFC fighter, though....especially his REAR NAKED CHOKE seen at 3:17.......

I would agree to this. Fedor's submission skills are out of this world. This is guy is a heavyweight but his movements are fast as hell. I've watched all his fights since PRIDE. The key fight was him beating crocop (this was back in the days when crocop was hella good and unbeatable) by decision.

Let us take it down a notch and talk about light-heavyweights and middleweights. To me, these two divisions are the most interesting since you will often see fighters crossing over between the two classes a-la Dan Henderson..., what I really want to see is a good match up for the pound for pound MMA king = Anderson Silva.

how about...

1) That is right folks...Forrest vs. Silva! I know they are in different weight classes ...but imagine the outcomes!!!!!!!!!!!! Silva recently gained some weight for his recent light-heavyweights bouts. I think Silva might be aiming for the "2 belts" titles. I bet you that this will be the next big UFC fight in 2009 or 2010!

2) Silva vs. Cung Le....(you might not heard of him much):

Cung Le vs. Silva will also be very interesting. Both are probably the best strikers lbs for lbs. Cung uses mainly "san shou" (i.e. china's kickboxing), taekwondo and muay thai.........vs................Silva's muay thai and brazilian jujitsu. Both are pretty weak on the ground if you ask me. But boy, it'll be a fun fight. Cung is currently the strikeforce's middleweight champ. Before you dismisses strikeforce credibility, Cung is for real. Seen his early days prior mainstream MMA. This is guy can really fight.

HAHAHAHAHA. was the real deal....Poor old kimbo, I was cheering for him too....

Sadly, he just got beat up by a no name , Seth Petruzelli, in eliteXC, cough, cough, "elite"XC......Round 1 in 14 secs...so sad.........so sad............🙁

now...i can see UFC signing him and pitch him against Lesnar....wow...that will draw a good crowd.... Hehehehehe.

Yeah obviously Lesnar has better wrestling than Sapp but I think that is a preview of what Nog is gonna do to him.

Did you guys see that the UFC has released Fitch, Koschek, and Cain Velasquez b/c they wouldnt sign the video game contract.

1. Fedor Emelianenko (28-1-0, 1 NC)
20080911020315_fedor.JPG

If there has been one criticism of MMA's premier heavyweight, it's that Emelianenko hasn't met the best of his contemporaries over the last three years. He responded with a 36-second thrashing of Tim Sylvia in July, and he will look to further prove his supremacy over the division on Jan. 24 when he takes on another former UFC heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski, in the headliner of the second Affliction bill. The only blemish is from a TKO...doctor stopped the fight... which he won later in a rematch.

2. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1, 1 NC)
20081017105012_minotauro.JPG

The consensus favorite in his December UFC interim heavyweight title scrap with Frank Mir, the TUF 8 coach will have a tall task ahead of him should he emerge victorious. Nogueira's prize for defeating Mir will be the chance to unify the UFC heavyweight crown with upstart Brock Lesnar in 2009, in what would make for an enormous heavyweight clash.

3. Anderson Silva (23-4-0)
20081017105905_anderson.JPG

Silva's perfunctory title defense against Patrick Cote was supposed to be an easy addition to the Brazilian's highlight reel. Instead the middleweight ruler turned in a puzzlingly passive performance until Cote suffered a knee injury in the third round, which has created many more hot topics than the usual "Who's next for Silva?"

4. Forrest Griffin (16-4-0)
20081017105109_griffin.JPG

The sport's unlikely 205-pound king will make the first defense of his UFC title against fellow “Ultimate Fighter” winner Rashad Evans at UFC 92 on Dec. 27. While a fight against Chuck Liddell may have been promotionally more appealing, the Evans matchup has given a previously unthinkable validation to the UFC and the TUF brand as a whole.

5. Lyoto Machida (13-0-0)
Fighter_7513.jpg

Unfortunately, Machida's slated October bout with Thiago Silva fell apart due to Silva injuring his back. However, Machida will have his big chance to convince all doubters and UFC brass that he is the undisputed top challenger to the light heavyweight title on an even bigger stage. He'll meet Silva on Super Bowl weekend in Vegas at UFC 94.

Why does Couture always end up fighting guys that outweigh him by 40-60 pounds?

The mid-90's called and want their no weight-class UFC's back.

He is really kinda in that middle area where he should probably be dropping down to fight at 205. Then by fight night he would be back up to 220. Coming in at a wet 220 for heavy weight is small when guys like Lesnar will weigh 275+ by fight time.

I bet the UFC gave him his in back into Teh Big Show if he fought in the heavyweight division because the division sucks compared to the other weight classes.

If I wanted to watch heavyweights gas after 2 minutes of pounding on each other in a relatively boring match, I'd watch my last full-sparing video.

The lighter weight classes is where it is at.

My personal opinion is that Fedor still relies a lot on takedowns, and I dont see Lesnar being taken down real easily. I think that mans sheer mass will create huge problems for Fedor.

Other than that, I'm most impressed with Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre. After that, BJ Penn.
