Hi, I was wondering what people knew about the programs in Brooklyn. For personal/family reasons, I would like to be in Brooklyn for my residency years. I'm quite familiar with Manhattan programs (Sinai, Columbia, NYU, Cornell) but I don't know anything about the Brooklyn programs.

As far as my own background goes, I'm from a top-10 medical school, board scores 240+, multiple honors, one publication, good LORs. Any info I can get from folks would be awesome.

Thanks!

If you want to learn by doing, come to Maimonides. We do >7K deliveries per year, which is apparently the most for a single institution in NY. Fairly large amount of high risk patients. Sometimes the residents do seem stressed, but overall they seem to like the program. I know the program director (Carmen Llopiz) is very nice and seems very interested in resident teaching.

On Fridays the residents are generally in conference from morning until 12 PM. I don't know how it is on other days.

They do have a night float system. Generally a 3rd year residents acts as the chief for night float.

I can't tell you much more because I see it from the anesthesia viewpoint. I stayed to do the OB Anesthesia fellowship b/c my wife needed to stay in NY for a year, and it was convenient for me b/c I have hospital housing. I definitely got a greater high risk experience being in the area every day. I will be going to UT-Memphis (Regional Medical Center) in July to use that experience. I think we have a good relationship with the OB/GYN team.
