Dearest Student Doctor Network,

I am a triplet. One of my triplet brothers is applying to dental school this year with me. We applied to all of the same schools and have received an interview invite to LECOM. LECOM does group interviews and we were wondering if it would be a bad idea going on the same day. It would save us a lot of money on hotels and rental cars. We would also like to know for future interviews as well. Is interviewing on the same day a good or a bad idea?

What's wrong with brothers applying together, what's that difference of that than two close friends applying to the same school and getting interviews at the same day? If nothing else, this is very nice to see two closed ones having the same dream, whether they are family members, cousins, best friends, or couples.
I am applying with a sibling.

I don't see any reason why it would be a bad idea. Save on the trip and go together.

While LECOM does group interviews, there are multiple groups. You would most likely just be placed into different groups during the actual interview portion.

If you still are worried about it, give the school a call. I'm sure they would let you know how they would prefer to handle the situation.

Just some dentist I know said it would be really stupid for a bunch of reasons. I thought it would be a novelty and something they would remember. Sadly the third is pre-med so no way going as three.🙁

You know, I tried to convince your brother to switch to pre-dental but he wouldn't listen.

I am also curious what the dentist said? Personally I think interviewing together has practical benefits and it can help you guys be memorable to ADCOMs. Just my thought though.

He also said it would look bad if we talked to each other. But I agree with you fellas, it seems like the benefits outweigh the costs. Also, the pre-dents are the black sheep in the family. I don't think you're competing with specifically the people in your interview group. You're competing with every single applicant that interviews, period. If you guys both interview well, interviewing on the same/different day won't affect the your chances of admission.

I know two identical twins in dental school who felt that it helped them. Go for it!

True but its also natural human instinct that people compare what is easily comparable.

I was going to say that. You can go together, but don't be together the whole time. Talk to other people more than to your sibling. Demonstrate you have awesome social skills.

Are you saying all your colleagues are social?I am sure there are only 5-10 social birds and the rest are just Ok or less social!
I've shadowed dentists, not all of them are very social, some of them just try to be polite enough and get the job done, and that didn't stop patients from coming again and again.

You know as a patient, I hated the most, the dentists who didn't stop talking while they were working on my teeth, I am sure many people hate that too.

You know as a patient, I hated the most, the dentists who didn't stop talking while they were working on my teeth, I am sure many people hate that too.

I'm not saying you have to be a full fledged extrovert, lord knows I'm not. However if you hate talking to new people I wouldn't recommend becoming a dentist. Unless you go very rural you're going to need both the clinical skills and personality to attract the maximum amount of patients.
