I can't seem to find too much information on it--I know it's a newer program, but is there anyone who has visited, or is a current MPH student there? What are your opinions/experiences? I would appreciate ANY information you all have! Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi guys!

I would check first to see that Brown is accredited. I think the website is www.asph.org Its the Association of Schools of Public Health. Someone had written in about Tufts previously..which I also don't think has its accreditation. I would be VERY hesitant to go into a school like that because their curriculum has not been universally accepted. You may have problems when it comes to an employer or another academic institution 'accepting' your degree. There are only ~ 37 accredited schools in the country which I remember being very surprised about!
:luck: ubercoo

Hi everyone,

The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH @ www.ceph.org) also accredits ph schools and programs. But I agree with ubercoo, I wouldn't attend a school that isn't listed on ASPH or CEPH if it's in your power (many fellowships, jobs, doctoral programs, etc., require a degree from a school accredited by either).

Good luck!

Hi guys,

I'm finishing my first year in the Brown MPH program and I wanted to let you know that, although it's a newer program, it is indeed accredited.

For the most part, I've been pretty satisfied. I've really enjoyed the smaller size of the program (only 20-25 people in each year), which was a big change from my undergrad experience at UC Berkeley. The program is very flexible and is good if you have an idea of what you want to do. Unlike most programs, it does not have strict concentrations or tracks that you choose from. Instead, you kinda just pave your own way. At first this sounded daunting to me, but you get your own advisor and that really helps.

Another nice thing about the program is that they offer PAID internships in the form of a scholarship and a stipend, which actually gets you good public health experience. The internships end up cutting the cost of attendance in about half, which I think is pretty amazing.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them!

I know someone who is looking at the program. Does anyone know when it starts (ie September or does it start in the summer-June?July? Could anyone comment on what internships are available (hospital, pharma, etc)

Thanks

ASPH only accredits SCHOOLS of public health so if a university doesn't have a full school of public health, it wouldnt' be listed on the ASPH site anyway. As someone mentioned, CEPH is a good source because it encompasses both full public health schools and programs. (Brown is accredited by CEPH, but not ASPH because it is only a program, not a full school, so it is not even considered).

I am a current student in the Brown MPH program. Please let me know if you have any questions...
