Hey guys as a first year, im currently taking my anatomy, histology/molecular bio, embryo. I have all the BRS books for these subjects and they are good (especially the anatomy). However, i keep reading good reviews about the rapid reviews series. Can i have others outlook on which books they like better as a supplement to the texts for exams and shelf exams. All subjects. Physio, Biochem, Path, Micro, Pharm etc. thanks

I'd recommend actually paging through the books on your own. Different people have different preferences. Usually RR Path (by Goljan) is recommended the most out of the RR series, and most of the BRS are pretty decent. I thought the level of detail in BRS anatomy was gratuitous though. I picked up the RR Pharm book.

Lippincott's Biochem was the best biochem book, IMO, and most people use Clinical Micro Made Ridiculously Easy for micro.

For Biochem use Lippincott and RR. BRS biochem had too much detail and the questions were not at all like the shelf questions.

I second the vote for Lippincott biochem.

I used RR to prepare for the shelf...helped immensely, however I bought the BRS to follow along while in class (why write when you can highlight?)

To complete the "super set"...pick up pre-test for question practice.

I used Lippincott for Biochem, BRS for Physio, and am currently using RR for Path.
I also picked up Lippincott Pharm, since I liked their biochem book so much. So far, it has not been a disappointment.

👍 Completely agree on this for MS1/MS2. Tons of my classmates used lippincott biochem and liked it, RR Path is amazing for MS2 and especially boards, and BRS physio is fantastic although if you need more explanation buy the longer version by Costanzo (same info and author as BRS, just more detail). Lippincott Pharm wasn't amazing in my opinion but probably is the best review book out there, although personally I think flash cards (especially Lange's) are a better format for pharm. For micro, made ridiculously simple is probably the most popular choice and what I used but if I had to do it over again I probably would have bought Lange's micro and immunobio.

I'm an M1 and our school uses this book as a supplement (esp for the questions) to our main immuno txt book and I actually like it much better than CMMRS. Its extremely concise yet complete. I feel CMMRS is trying a bit too hard to be different/funny and that takes a bit away from it for me. I am seriously thinking of buying the lange text even though I am currently anti-text book for M1 yrs👍...btw the powerpoint and the notes, everything is usually covered.

Every Rapid Review book I've seen so far beats every BRS book I've seen so far. Plus, with the RR, you get access to studentconsult online -- which gives you a lot more practice questions.

Thanks, this helped me really-a TON-to select books for my first year at the medical school.

Hi!
I find the following books good enough for step 1 wrt the year one:
Physiology review-Guyton and Hall: The book is really a quick recap of the core textbook and has excellent review questions. Some of the questions have a really high level of a challenge, so it may trouble a starter.
BRS Physiology:This is a good book for starters, the review MCQs are relatively easier wrt G&H physio review. It also recaps the concepts well.
Rapid Review Physiology: This is a good reference but a time-consuming review book, filled with at-times mind boggling lab values and quite a number of details, yet it is good as a supplement.

For Biochemistry, Lippincotts is all I suggest. Maybe Rapid Review gives you an extra detailed picture. Also, the Q&A review of Lippincott is also a superb resource.

Anatomy: BRS and RR are worth referring to for anatomy.

Hope this helps.
P.S. I bought all that was in market just to find these were the best among them.

Will having older versions of the books be any problem for review or classes? I have come across some older versions of review books from MS2 friends with deals to good to pass up which are now an edition or two behind what is currently available.

I used all older editions for the review books. I bought them online really cheap and I could not pass up the deals. I believe that some of the questions at the end of the chapter change between editions for the BRS. Everything else was almost exactly the same.
