So yes I know. BRS Physiology is absolutely incredible for the step 1 exam, but would it be sufficient for actual first year med school classes (as opposed to buying the whole physiology textbook)?

We have Costanzo's physiology book as our required text for our courses, but I much rather like an outlined format...just afraid it might be insufficient if it is too geared towards the boards.

I used that, BRS Physio Cases and Problems, and my lecture notes/scribe notes. I thought that was plenty, though if you're a textbook person (I am definitely not) you might feel like you're missing something.

I can't recommend the BRS Problems book highly enough, my test grades seemed to directly correlate with whether I used it or not. Even if I didn't actually sit down and try and answer all the questions just reading through the answer explanations seemed to help a lot.

Although I love, Love, LOVE BRS physio, I think it would be really difficult to understand if you were using it exclusively as your primary text.

Now, if your lectures and course syllabus/notesets are adequate, then you probably don't need another textbook.

BRS physio was cool, but not sufficient for the class. The full Costanzo book is the best textbook I have ever bought. It is very well written. Do yourself a favor: buy Big Costanzo and read every word of it.

I did well with the class powerpoints and BRS physiology.

I've used BRS phys a great review book. But, for a solid understanding of the concepts I'd recommend the Lange series of whatever system (GI, cardio, endocrine etc.) book.

I was low on cash first year. So I used BRS physio instead of a big chunky expensive textbook. I loved it. There were times that I felt BRS explained things better than the professor.

Although I think everyone should have a copy of Guyton, if you don't want to buy a textbook, just use BRS and your class notes (if you have them). Slides if you don't. Look up things that are in your notes but not in BRS either with a friend's Costanza or one from the library.
