I’m curious what others have decided is best for them and their family in regard to the two retirement options. I’m mostly curious what others have decided who have been in 6-8 years - who are not brand new to the service but also are not so senior. Also, if you chose the BRS and you got out, when does that pension start? How long does it last for? Thank you!

If there is any chance you might get our before 20 and the numbers for both scenarios for your situation are close, go for BRS. There is no pension if you choose BRS and get out early, but there are retirement plan contributions which will be available to you at 59 1/2 just like anyone else with a 401k or Roth IRA.
