Hi,
I was checking on Boston University's dental admissions website and saw that they required 20 credits?! of social science. I was wondering if anyone knew how lenient or strict they were on that requirement. It says they want students to take classes in psychology, sociology, humanities, and anthropology.. and i am taking a few but they do not count as social science credits at the University of Michigan. Anyone know anything about this?

"Social Sciences – 5 courses (20 credits). The committee strongly recommends that the applicant's college curriculum include courses in psychology, humanities, sociology or anthropology, and economics."

http://dentalschool.bu.edu/bulletin/DMD/app-dmd.html

thats really not that bad...you should have that just from electives and general education requirements of your university.

Either way, its only 5 classes..take an intro to psychology, macro or microeconomics, intro to sociology, a philosophy class and usually an english class counts towards humanities..writing..or such..

Its not as bad as it sounds. My university doesnt list them as social science either, but just use the examples given to pick a few classes.

Right, I understand that.. but I am wondering if they have to be LISTED as social science credits from my school?

I am taking psych218 - a sophomore seminar, English125- college writing, Anthrcul232- an anthropology class, have psychology AP credit, and some English IB credit.. but NONE of these count as social science at my school (other than the intro to psych)

Yeah thats fine. Thats how it is at my school too. There is really nothing you can do about it.

It is what BU Dental counts as social sciences that matters, and all of those classes you listed seem to fit.

You should be set.

when they say like they will accept english credits if your university accepted them in your degree (from ap or Oac) does that include credits from cc? because I took english, economics, and cal I and II at CC. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know anything about CC as I didnt go to one. But I know some schools require that their pre-recs be done at a 4 year university

You have to check on a school by school basis

Anyone knows if BU has a cutoff on any section of the DAT? Thx

Great! thanks for sharing.

Can anyone else back this up as well? Perhaps someone who has been accepted there? Or other similar schools with the same situation?

I know the thread is a little old but hopefully one of you can help me out.
What does count at BU for social sciences... I'm doing a split degree (Fine arts and Biology) so I have a ton of random arts (2 philosophies, I'll have a sociology, many art histories and fine arts courses etc...) am I good to go?

mmm why don't you call them up and ask?

Well that's the plan after I write the DAT, but I was hoping in the mean time that someone would have some wonderful insight and be willing to share.
