So I've been accepted to Midwestern-IL, and I'm waiting on Umich (should hear back in roughly a week or two). I also have interviews at BU and USC in roughly a week. Do you think it is worth going to them?

I'm not crazy about PBL and live in Michigan, so USC's interview will probably be less than impressive to me and expensive as can be. On the other hand, both schools are more established than Midwestern-IL, and there is a chance that I will fall in love with one of them.

Also, I'm HPSP, so tuition is irrelevant.

I'm leaning toward attending one, but not the other. What would you do?

I would go to both interviews...why not spend a relatively small amount of money upfront to know you are making the right decision?

Also, if you by chance hear from Michigan before you are supposed to go you could always cancel.

At the very least, pick one and go to it and see what's out there.

I don't understand the title of this thread. "Should I pay up?" You're doing HPSP, you're not paying for anything.

I was referring to the cost of the interviews. A ticket from Michigan to California would cost a small fortune. Not to mention the Boston ticket, the cost of renting two cars, the cost of one-night stays at two hotels, the lost pay resulting from taking two days off work, etc etc etc.

I can easily see this running up to $1000 all together.

I can see how the title is confusing tho. I don't know how to change it.

I wouldnt waste my $$$ going on interviews where I have no intent of actually attending. You won't miss much by being curious since you already know the schools are not for you.

You have interviews in about a week and I'm guessing you haven't purchased plane tickets yet. That's going to be a lot of money. You already said you're not crazy about PBL or the LA environment. So I would say drop USC.

Unless you really want to check out BU and Boston, I would say drop that too. You already have one acceptance and if you're ok with Midwestern, then I wouldn't worry about other interviews.

I was in a similar predicament with my LECOM interview. Ultimately I decided not to attend the interview because I really couldn't see myself going there over the other school that I got accepted to. I kept telling myself that maybe the few hundred dollars to interview would be worth it though. Maybe I would really like the school once I got there. But like I said, I knew when all was said and done I wouldn't actually want to live/study there. This kind of sounds like what you're saying about USC.

Maybe you could just buy a Southwest ticket for the time being. That's what I did. If you decide in a few weeks that you don't want to go, you can cancel the tickets and get a full credit for the purchase price to use on a future flight within 1 year.

yea i'm leaning towards not going to my USC interview too

but if BU offered my an interview, i'd check it out

I am a big fan of USC and enjoy PBL, but if you are not feeling PBL, then don't waste your money.
LA is def. fun place to check out, but I feel like you will hate their program after the interview, especially when you already know you don't like PBL.

Also, I noticed while I was getting my interview at Tufts dental school that BU dental's school rep. in Boston is horrible. It felt like students from Tufts and Harvard dental don't really have respect for them. Bu also has some problem with getting their patient pool.

If I were you, I will rather just go to Midwestern...

BU was the one that I was leaning toward going to.

I think I will go to BU and forget about USC. I don't think I'd mind living in CA, but the school sure doesn't sound like a good fit for me.

+1 i dont see why you would donate money to AA and Jetblue to fly to places you have zero intention of going to. dont be greedy for interviews its simple a waste of your hard earned cash

USC may be worthwhile to check out. I wouldn't be so sure about BU. Of course I've never been, but I haven't heard many good things about them. You're already sitting on an acceptance. Wait it out. I went to all of my interviews until I held my acceptances. Then I rescinded my apps at places I wasn't serious about. 3 in total.

I was in the same predicament just a few days ago! I guess you just need to ask yourself, if you were accepted to USC/BU, would you go there rather than Midwestern-IL. If the answer's yes, then the interview $$$ is money well spent. If not, then don't go, and treat yourself to a shopping spree or sth 😀! I asked myself that and realized that I wouldn't go even if I were accepted. So that's why I cancelled my UBC interview.
So in short, if you prefer either of the two schools over Midwestern IL, then no matter how expensive the interview is it's worth it!

Why don't you just save that money and plan a Vegas trip with it? Money better spent IMHO.
