BU Interviews???

Hello All,
I'm new to this forum and have applied to several Dental Schools; BU being one of them. Unfortunately I've already had interviews at most schools I've applied to except BU. Has any one had an interview there already or are scheduled to have one?? Should the fact that I have not been contacted by them at this point be any reason to worry?

I just got back from an interview at BU. They told us that they interview about 900 people a year (although, I think that this number might be exagerated). They have 110 seats to fill, which means that they admit about 1/3 of all the people they interview. I actually didn't even send them a check for my application processing - and they invited me for an interview anyway. Don't worry if you haven't gotten an interview yet, I have spoken to people at my interviews that already interviewed at Harvard, but hadn't heard a thing from schools like NYU. So, who knows? It may just depend on when you applied. I'm not sure what other schools you applied to, but I was really impressed by BU - and I was expecting it to not be so hot.

Here is my theory on schools granting interviews..

My beleif is that schools try to give interviews based on the probability that you will show up to the interview and enroll in the program. (or else, they are wasting everybody's time)

For example, some "easier" schools may not invite the 3.99, 24 DAT, student becuase hey know that student will probably go to UCLA or Harvard or their own state school. A lot of the time, over qualified applicants are treated like underqualified ones.

To an extent, I also think schools take into account your home city (even private schools). To illustrate, say they only have room for ONE more interview and have two students with comparable stats, one lives in the schools's city, the other on the opposite coast, who you think they will give the interview to?

So its really more than just the numbers on your application that gets you an interview.

This is only my opinion.

Thanks for the info...funny thing is I applied to NYU and their interview was the second interview I had. I'm originally from Boston, as a matter of fact, I did my undergrad at BU...oh well, I guess I'll just keep waiting..

This is only my opinion.

That may be true for most private schools, but I can say that is not true for Tufts. The majority of students at Tufts are from the west coast (CA, WA, OR). New Englanders are are distant second, followed by Canadians/Internationals.

Yup, 50% are from Cali and about 20% from Canada. Maybe 5% are from the boston area (at BU).

Hmmm No wonder the dental school alumni I know from Tufts and BU are from California. Kudos for them in sacrificing nice balmy California weather for the cold and at times miserable New England weather.

If BU really interviews 900 people a year, then I think it just wastes people's money and time. 110 vs. 900 is not a reasonable ratio. I would admire Tufts' policy more that they only interview the people they would most likely accept them and the rate is as high as 85% (read from the threads of SDN).

It is an espensive trip to Boston. Hope it is not really 900 interviewees every year. I will ask them the acceptance/interview ratio next week in the interview.

they probably accept like 450 or more for the 110 spots

so then the ratio is good. Those that go to BU could give you the exact #
