Does anyone know if they only accept people with extraordinary stats in January? I interviewed in October, but my stats are not that amazing. I really hope to hear from them though because it is my top choice.

I'm not sure if they would accept people with EXTRAORDINARY stats, but I would think that they accept applicant with high stats...and also, I would think they accept those that have really showed that BU is their first choice...did you write a letter of interest for them or do anything to show them that BU is your first choice?

Yes, I wrote a letter of interest after the interview.
My interviewer said he thinks I'll be a good fit for the school, but you know you can never trust their remarks. Do you know what was their MCAT and GPA range for accepted applicants last cycle?

According to the MSAR book, their MCAT is 10V, 11P, 11B, Q and mean GPA is 3.74 and mean science is 3.72. Are you from MA? Because they accept more than half of the MA residents that they interview.

I'm from Texas. They told me it doesn't matter where I am from because they are private with no state funding at all?🙁 Alright, now I'm feeling even worse.

don't feel worse. most private schools statistics show that they take more local people by PERCENTAGE. they do not HAVE to favor them but, all things being otherwise equal, the may get accepted because the have shown that they like the area and may attend the school and may practice in the area. i also think some state funding may require them to take a certain number of in state people even tho they are private. don't know if BU has that.

I'm not totally sure about state funding either...however, since BMC is in an area that gets a lot of underserved population and gets a lot of people from Dorchester and Roxbury (tons of violence in those cities, pretty much a person gets shot every day), I feel like they should get some funding from MA to treat the uninsured.

Oh I've lived in Boston for a little while and I told them I love the location. Actually I stumbled into BUSM couple of years back while trying to find another facility and completely fell in love with the school and it's students. The admissions office told me they do not get any state funding, which is why everyone pays the same tuition. Schools that get state funding have residents paying less. Even if it is true, accepting more in state students makes sense with all the housing problem etc I guess. Gosh, I just want them to accept me 😳 pretty pleeease BU.

I loved BU as well. I'm from MA and I want to stay in the area and getting in there would be awesome. The only negative thing about BUSM is that it is inaccessible by the T so if you want to venture outside of BUSM you need to take a bus and then the T, blah blah...of course, a car is a possibility, but if you've been around the campus, you quickly find out it's really not a possibility at all.

finally, some people that are pro BUSM. this thread was making me very hesitant towards the school.

hey guys, i called BU today and they said they'll be emailing rejections/deferrals towards the end of this month, and will be snail mailing acceptances in 2-3 weeks. apparently they're not calling anyone

Damn...so there goes the Jan 10 expected mailing...I love more waiting from med schools.

Ooo more wait. Since they meet in December to decide our fates, why can't they just let us know of their decision via the status page or something.

If anyone hears anything from BU, will you please post it on here? I'm getting more anxious by the day. January 12 seems so far away already and snail mail almost makes waiting unbearable because I don't know when their decision will arrive!

Agreed! They've already made their decisions, I'm pretty sure, so it should all be clerical stuff now...preparing the letters and e-mails, etc. It's going to be a long couple of weeks.

Have they made all their decisions already? When I had my interview in mid-October they said that they would start going through all the interviewees' files the week following the last interview date which was Dec 14. They also requested that we have our transcripts in by this date. Dean Witzburg said that decisions would mailed out at the end of January.

It just seems like it would be a lot of work for them to get it all done in one meeting or even one week before the holidays started. Evaluating more than 600 files would be pretty time consuming.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are still going through the files......

When I was there at the end of October, Dean Witzburg said that the letters would be mailed out January 10th. 600 files is a lot but I'm sure they spend a couple of weeks going through the files. Also, people have started getting interview invitations for the second cycle, which is another reason for my thoughts that decisions have been made already. Of course, I don't have any inside connections so I'm not sure.

This is what they told us too. I was there mid of October. My interviewer said I could email/call him if I get anxious about the decision, but I don't want to look too eager 😳

Can I email the admissions office and ask about their final decision? Or is that just inappropriate?

I don't think that's a good idea...I'm pretty sure they won't tell you a final decision over an e-mail just like that anyways...I called them today and a very rude woman told me that they don't have a set date for when they're giving out decisions.

OH! That sucks - no final date set yet. I'm going to be out of town and am just very anxious to know I guess. Oh well, we all got to wait. Also, I'm not surprised that they don't have a fixed date because it seems as though those who interviewed in October were told that decisions were going to be mailed on the 10th...and on my interview day (late Nov) the dean said on the 12th (which is a saturday?!). Anyways, thanks for responding. Let's hope we all hear some good news sooooon!

For those that interviewed at BU (which seems to be many people in this thread), do you guys know what the interview day schedule is like? I know it runs from 8 to 3, but I was wondering what time the actual interviews are and what the interview format is (open/closed). Thanks!

The interview is open file. My interviewer had my AMCAS application (including grades) and my BU secondary application right there and she was flipping through the application at times. The actual interview times vary, but they are all during the 9-11am range. I am not sure if there were any afternoon interviews; I highly doubt it because we had a lunch then a tour of the campus then a final thank-you for coming and good luck talk.

First, the dean gives a pretty good informational session thats about an hour. Then the interview group is divided into 2...one group has interviews and the other group has an open discussion with a faculty member, and then the groups switch. The interview is open file, pretty relaxed and lasts around 45 minutes. After interviews, theres financial aid and housing meeting, then lunch, then tour, and then wrap up Q and A with the dean. A pretty good day overall...although I found it a bit tiring since we started so early.

Just got this message via the message center and figured it would be useful to post:

All decisions will be made in mid-January. Most decisions will be an email.
Acceptances would be a formal letter in the mail.

Okay, I take that back...Now that I'm looking at it, the message doesn't seem useful at all. haha

Thanks for the info nuerofreak! Atleast now I know not to expect anything on the 15th.

if it helps anyone out, it looks like they've made their decisions for the jan acceptances - i got a call tonite from my interviewer with my acceptance and she said they'd be sending out letters in the next few days.

OH MY GOSH! Congrats!!!

I hope I get in too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

am I the only one who didn't write a letter of interest yet?

I guess I'll write one if I'm waitlisted of course but I didn't know you were supposed to write them right after an interview!

I didn't write one either. But I haven't been accepted (yet?!).

Yeah, ditto that. I also didn't do the "Why BU" essay, so perhaps I should have exerted myself a bit more on this one...

There was a 'why BU' essay? Hmm didn't do that either then!

damn! they lied to me through their deceitful messages! oh well, i guess we just have to wait for the next few weeks. gluck to everyone! :luck:

Hmm, I guess the rest of us either have lazy interviewers or not-happy news? 😛 Congrats man.

papermate or zeb, did your status page change at all?

No. It still says "Your application is now under consideration by the Committee on Admissions" on my website.

I may have gotten the phone call because I am in a different pool from the rest of you guys.

Yup, I was just wondering about that. Can people let us know if they are in the "regular" pool or not if they get accepted? And congrats papermate!!
