deferred also

😀 Good luck to you though! I really really really hope that you get in. They would be crazy not to accept you!

Aw, thanks for the vote of support. Keep me updated on your other schools, and good luck:luck::luck::luck:

My interviewer left a message on my phone while I was out of town and out of reception. I just finished my MPH at BU but didn't do my undergrad there.

There are 60 accepted this round, 540 are either deferred or rejected. I imagine that half are deferred and half are rejected but I can't say for sure. 400 are interviewed from January until March then most of the class is accepted in March. Good luck guys! i hope you're my classmates next year!!

Well doing a little math, this looks amazing for those deferred. So don't get down if you got an email instead of an acceptance
- I'm using data from USNews Ultimate Guide to Med School and quote above - About 400 acceptances are left to be given (in March and from the March waitlist). Even if no one got rejected that means about 940 people will be considered in March for 400 acceptances. About 43%. Not bad
- But people were rejected. Let's say half were rejected (which is probably a high number). So that would mean about 700 people would be leave for 400 acceptances. That means almost 60% chance of getting in.
I guess the real odds are somewhere between these numbers because they probably would not rejected half of their interviews, maybe more like 10%. So I think we can be safe to think that those who are left have a 50% chance of getting in. Look at all your other march decisions that are coming up, you won't find odds that good anywhere else.

Best of luck everyone

For the life of me, I can't figure out why BU decides to accept 60 people in January (as this thread has stated). Why the extra effort when they could just be lumped in as part of a mass acceptance during March? I'm not knocking those lucky few that got in, just trying to figure out why they don't go ahead and do the fully non-rolling, since they seem to be almost there anyway. Oh well, BU seems kinda wacky in general, like that "wacky" cost of tuition. Haha. Kidding aside, now counting down to March ...

Got deferred...kinda sucks...but at least there's still some hope.

I think that those USnews numbers are a little off in terms of relevance for this year. I was told that last year, BU accidentally gave out too many acceptances, which some accepted unexpectedly. As a result, the class size was larger than the desired capacity. This year, they will be giving out less acceptances. Furthermore, I think that the number of listed "acceptances" also includes the students that are accepted out of special programs from BU (i.e. BA/MD, BS/MD, B.ENG/MD, etc.).

I was deferred as well...and I just chose to withdraw so hopefully that will clear some space for some other people in March! Good Luck everyone!

Does anyone know if all decisions were made at once? I am still a sitting duck... no message update (still under review) and no phone calls or emails. Arghhhhhhh 😱

Not to artificially inflate anyone's hopes, but I would really believe the only explanation for those who have no update at all (no rejection or deferral e-mails or status changes) is that you are likely to receive acceptance letters in the mail sometime soon. Can anyone posit any other reasons as to why people wouldn't have a status update, since BU snail mails all acceptances? It seems as though they did all the online updates all at once, but it's naturally possible that some rejection/deferrals haven't been posted yet (although it seems unlikely).

I guess the answer is, you'll have to wait and see. 🙂 :luck: to those waiting for an answer.

If you have your interviewer's #, you can def. call

alright, sdn... let's interpret this. despite eagle's assurances, i was still scared, so i just called the office and asked if it would be appropriate to call my interviewer and ask for my status. they asked for my amcas number, put me on hold, and then said "if you haven't heard anything from your interviewer by wednesday, call the office back." i am seizing upon the fact that they said "from your interviewer" and not "from your interviewer or status page/email." could it be i'm accepted and they're not allowed to tell me yet??? please, please be true...

Yeah, that sounds right to me.

The USnews numbers are from two years ago. I'm not sure about the special programs, but judging from the other schools listed, it seems that it is only the MD applicants. I get what your saying about last year. I was wondering why the current AAMC book had such higher enrollment numbers.

i just received my acceptance email! i interviewed in early october, and didn't receive a phone call or status update prior to the email.

good luck everyone! :luck:

My interviewer finally decided to call me circa 8:15 CST, gets my voicemail and leaves a cryptic message. I call him back around 11 AM CST, he tells me I'm in! Yay. (And then the email arrives at around 3 PM CST).

Didn't fill out the "Why BU" secondary options. Did not send in an LOI (Dean Witzberg made even the idea of sending them an LOI too scary for me).

Congrats to everyone who got in today!! 😀 and :luck: to those who are still waiting.

for everyone's info, i did not fill out the optional essay or send a loi either. i did email the md/mph guy with some questions before being invited to interview; maybe that helped. i also nodded off (just for a moment) during dr. witzburg's talk and was extremely worried that he noticed and put it in my file... guess not!! (it sucked that i was so tired that day, because that was by far the coolest info session i've been to.)

anyways, congratulations to my fellow acceptees, and good luck to everyone else! :luck:

what did he say about sending a LOI? He wasn't there on the day I interviewed, someone filled in for him.

i thought he said "don't send them" but then again i wasn't really paying attention. there were some cuties in my interview grp.

I don't think he said don't send them, he said don't send them unless you really mean them...to our group, he said, don't send these letters a day after the interview because we know you won't really mean them...he used the words "do some soul searching" before you send them.

oh yeah thats right it was something more along those lines.

OMG you crack me up!! So much for paying attention-- Dean Witzburg actually has great speaking skills

He really does! This was one of the few schools where I actually wasn't bored during the information session.

has anyone gotten the acceptance packet in the mail yet? since the email says there's a a technical standards thing we have to sign and turn in, i'm kind of assuming there's an official form we can use to hold our acceptance, too... or have you all written your own letters already?

I got the packet...it just has the technical form that we need to sign...I called the admissions office today and they said all we need to turn in is that signed form, and thats like our intent to hold the place.

Hey eagle, when did you receive the packet?

I received it on Saturday...but I'm from around Boston area.

That's weird. I live 1/2 drive away from the ciy and haven't received mine yet. Maybe it will come tomorrow. Does it say that we have to turn in the tech standards form by Jan 24th?

Hey Eagle, any chance you go to BC? Just noticed you were from MA, and thought your screenname might suggest that!

Actually, I go to Tufts, but my high school mascot was the eagle and the high school was affiliated with BC. What about you?

Then I hope we end up being classmates🙂 I LOVE BU!

Yes, definitely! There are lots of cool people on this thread that will hopefully be my classmates next year!

Sadly, I may have to. I'm not sure yet - it's a pretty steep cost. I liked the school, but have to consider what choice is best for my future...

I have been deferred, but I still have hope though! Congrats to those who were accepted this round!! 👍👍

We don't need to send them any deposit until May 15th, right? I sent in the signed technical form AND a brief letter saying I accepted the offer, just in case.
