I was wondering if anyone went to med school after the the BU masters in medical science progeam. How was the program, what kind of financial support or assisstantships does BU offer. Also, I heard if you do graduate work at BU and there is overlap in courses, you can be exempted from those first year classes in their med school, is that true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It does't look like the waitlists are gonna work.

Adi, there is another thread posted on this topic. Check it out. Also, I think we've met at the NYMC March 25th interview. Let me know if I'm right. How's it goin by the way???

A member of my undergrad class did the BU master's program. She is entering BUSM in the fall and can indeed exempt out of several classes during the first year. After that, everyone must take the same classes. Also, since BU is a lock step program, you can't accelerate, so she will simply have a lesser course load, but won't finish in under 4 years. As for financial aid, I don't think there's much, but they boast a pretty good med school acceptance rate if you take the program seriously.

Dear Adi,

I am currently finishing the BU program and will be a MSI at UHSCOM (osteopathic school) this coming fall. This program is great to decelerate your 1st year at BU or get some great background before going elsewhere. The price is pretty steep (i.e. lots of loans), but if you do well, most of our profs are on the admissions committee, so this can be an advantage (?). Good luck & feel free to Personal Message me if you have any specific questions.

It states online that this program usually takes 2 years to complete but can be done in 1. How easy is it to do in one year and can you apply to schools for next year.

Student - you can complete the BU program in one year like I did, but you have to do summer course work and finish your thesis by the end of summer. You cannot finish the program in less than 12 months. Also, your grades won't be available if you apply the summer before you enter into the program so you might want to wait until the next summer if the reason why you are doing the program is for grades. It is a great program though and you can make your first year of medical school a lot easier by giving you a leg up on the coursework. Hope this helps.
