Hey guys,
So after waiting to hear back from my number one choice (University of Western Ontario near Toronto Canada), I've decided to go to BU this August! I want to get to know people beforehand, but I'm not doing the EXCEL program. Lets start a thread devoted to just BU Class 2010. I can't wait to start meeting you guys!

Nice to meet you Krissy! I'm Galang and im very eager about moving to Boston and starting dental school. I never thought this day would come! After 4 years of saying that im going to dental school... I'm actually going to be in dental school! Now I can start saying "I'm gonna be a dentist!" and in 4 years... I'll BE a dentist! 😍

The class VP and I are both Canadians, we trashed talked each other's hockey teams to death, every day, while the Americans sit there and wonder why do we care about hockey so much... good times...

Well I was a little sneaky with the whole process 🙂 I emailed the Admissions Secretary at UWO and she told me (in so many words) that I was on the waiting list and that maybe I should consider going to Boston. That was a HUGE hint for her to give away, so I've made the final decision to head to BU! I can't wait until June!! UWO has the most drawn out process of any school I know! Did you have an interview at UWO?

Wow! A lot of Canadians go to BU...we need to set up some club or something....The Hosers! And all we do is drink Canadian imported beer and watch hockey and "talk like this eh" 🙂
LOL so when school starts, I'm only going to know your usernames...I'm going to have to go around asking people "are you sweettooth" or "wildflower"? So when school starts, look for a little blonde girl (LOL thats me!) and introduce yourself!

I echo the sentiments of my fellow Canuck.....do you guys get the semi-final games on tv there?? Rumor has it that in boston, there is a bar that is owned by an edmontonian and oilers hockey is always on the tube when they play. Gosh i hope that's true....i mean, i'll watch the bruins play now and then, but it ain't the same.

I show up the office, make myself and nice cup of coffee. 😎

I read the paper, (the business section, my dentist said its very important )

I Put on my white coat 👍 Eye protection, mask...

Ask if any of the dentist have anythin exciting, I got lucky because there are 4 dentists at my APEX office.

Watch some stuff.

Jump on the chair and assist if I felt like it, or if the assistant goes missing for some reason.

Have and extended lunch, while reading my favorite dental journal 👍 The dentists like it when I just read random dentistry related stuff too.

Engage in discussions with the dentists

I do variations somedays, I had the dentist send me to the lab, where he gets his work done, that was different, and I learned alot...
I also asked to be outsources (if i was really a resourse) to a specialist, they're still working on that...

And i also sit and have long talks with the office manager, about the practise...

I get to make stone models from the impressions sometimes, the assistants like that 😉 cuz they dont have to do it when you do it...

I am enjoying it so far, but I do agree with Rezdawg from another thread... APEX could have been cut down to a month or two, three months is just too much cuz things start to repeat. But, it beats being in school anyday.

This is probably an insignificant question, but do we get a spring break? I was looking at the academic calendar on the website and it didn't say when it was... and I looked at last year's too and it didn't mention spring break....

Personally, I tried to start the housing search but it's hard to do everything online. So, I am just going to wait until EXCEL to find a place so that I can actually check out places in person.

My office is open from 9-6 Tuesday-Thursday and 9-2 on Fridays.

Some of the things I do...

Take radiographs, process them, and mount them.
Set up the operatory depending on what procedure is being done.
Break down the operatory, sterilize instruments, and set up for the next procedure. I can assist any procedure I want to or I can just stand there and watch.
Take impressions and make stone models.
1.5 hour lunch during the middle of the day.

The dentist is cool as ****...I can literally tell him I feel like going home and not coming back until the next week and he'll be respond with "dont forget to watch that basketball game tonight, and make sure to party on Friday night, I have a nice pool at my house if you want to bring some people over". Plus, he introduces me as "doctor" to his patients 😎

Also, he is going to set me up with some specialists, so I can get a closer look at that...I'll be rotating with an endodontist, periodontist, oral surgeon, and maybe a prosthodontist.

Its pretty chill and Ive learned a lot, but 3 months seems like its forever, specially since we really didnt get any time off from when we had our last final until the first day of APEX. I just want a break...but, not having to study after work feels great.

Im in Houston now.

You cant really do an OMFS externship during apex...but, you can work with an oral surgeon during APEX. You can do externships either during the brief times you get summers off or during your 4th year.

I have a question about classes...do classes begin at 8am? Also, how do you guys take notes (ie. do you manually take notes or use your laptop to take notes in class?) I think I can actually type faster than I can write, so typing may work best for me. Do classes have notes available online?
