Hi everyone! I'm super excited and humbled to have gotten multiple acceptance offers and am currently deciding between going to BU or Georgetown

BU:

Pros:
  • Close to Family
  • Close to S/O
  • I love the city of Boston and have wanted to live there since I was in high school (also have some friends there)
  • Well regarded within the medical community (29th on USNWR)
  • I'd ultimately like to match in Boston for residency
  • Great research connections in the area

Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Not in the nicest area
  • The facilities are a little old and sad
  • Great match list, but perhaps doesn't bulk send as many people in surgical subspecialties as GT
  • Have heard rumors of people here being stressed (although students seem nice and I imagine med school is stressful wherever you go)

Georgetown:

Pros:
  • Never really thought I'd want to live in DC but ended up really liking the city and Georgetown as a whole
  • The area Georgetown is in is very pretty and has a lot of bars/restaurants/things to do.
  • Great match list, sends a lot of people into competitive surgical subspecialties
  • My friend goes there and the vibes there seem pretty good

Cons:
  • Furtherer away from family and S/O
  • Not as many research opportunities (from what I've heard)
  • Also expensive but roughly the same price as BU
  • Lower rank (44th on USNWR) than BU, but perhaps more layman's prestige?
TL;DR: I'm currently heavily leaning towards going to BU. It checks off a lot of boxes for me. While I'm not committed to what speciality I'd like to pursue, I'm interested in pursing a surgical subspecialty. Since Georgetown does really well in this arena I wanted to reach out here and, in essence, make sure I'm not missing out on a particular opportunity by going to BU. I also wanted to gauge what people have heard regarding the environments at these programs. I've heard people can be somewhat competitive at these schools and, while I expect there to be some stress and competition wherever I go, I still want to avoid any toxic or unsupportive environments.

If you want to match in Boston, I highly recommend going to BU. Just being in the city helps a lot, and BU is great for matching into any of the Boston residencies. From what I have seen, BU students are pretty chill as well.
