What do you think the pros and cons are of BU and Jefferson? Which would you choose and why? I am from a large metropolitan city and therefore would prefer an urban school ( and both of them fit that category). But, which do you think has a better education? Clinical experience? Reputation? Where do you think med students are happiest?

I'm happy with Jefferson (so far) and with Philly. =)

I think it depends more on you than what other students think though. Do you like boston or philly better? I think you may find boston more expensive but it is a bit more collegiate atmosphere. At the same time, Philadelphia has 5 medical schools too.

It is pretty close to a tie between those two. They are even in similar urban locations.

A better question for you would be Philly or Boston?

i think boston blows philly away. boston is an amazing town. philly......ummm, yeah. the only problem is that boston is much more expensive than philly, but i don't wanna count your money for you.

I would think you'd get better clinical instruction at Jefferson, but I don't know enough about BU to say for sure. I love Boston. Like it more than Philly for sure. But Jeff is in a pretty nice part of Philly.

Go for the second look at Jeff. You'll see that the neighborhood is about the best you could ask for to go to school in. It's affordable, accessible, and fun. Boston is also a great town, but when you consider the superior clinical resources at Jefferson, the choice becomes clear.

Ok, so I know Boston has more doing than Philly. Just wondering why you guys are saying Jefferson has a better clinical program than BU. What about it is better? Also, why is BU ranked higher than Jefferson in US News? Did you get the feeling that students at BU were happy?

also, anyone know the date of the second look at jeff?

boston is ranked higher in research by 9 spots cause they basically have double the amount of NIH funding compared to Jefferson.

As previously mentioned, the U.S. news rankings are based heavily on research funding and since Jeff is VERY clinically oriented it doesn't have a lot of research funding. Jefferson has an awesome sense of family between the staff, students, and alumni. The people there actually CARE about you (and not just in the academic sense). Though I would rather live in Boston than Philly the atmosphere at Jefferson is the reason I will be going there in August. In the end it really depends on what is important to you.

p.s. Jeff second look is on of the Thursday/Fridays in April (sorry the exact date is escaping me)

the second look at jeff is april 1/2. I don't know the details yet. Is Housing provided? Can you bring guests?

Boston. = Patriots (champs), Red Sox (soon enough, please), Bruins, and Celtics.

If you are a sports fan, go to boston.

ya i am not being to serious, but the sports are a plus. I have been to philly, it seemed like I drove through a 3rd world country for like 20 minutes beofre i got into the good part.

Yeah, Philly is tough, but center city is nice. It's a great area. Honestly, these schools are comparable. Good luck.

Choose BU simply to leave a spot available for me to get accepted off jefferson's waitlist.

I like philly. It takes some getting used to and its not for everyone, but its fun. Plus I like being a new york sports fan in philly. Boston people are a little too hostile towards new york sports fans in my humble opinion.

edit: almost forgot to mention Big 5 basketball in philly. College b-ball here is a good time

how do you think the curriculum compare? students' happiness?

forensicpath, i hope you get into jeff because it sounds like you really want to go there. us philly folks aren't as bad as bostoners but are still pretty hostile to ny sports people - esp Yankee and Giants fans - but not nearly as much as we hate Cowboy fans. and how great is the big 5 this year! tried to get st joes/temple tix this weekend but scalper prices were ridiculous.

good luck and hope you get in.

Isn't Jeff on the Block curriculum and BU not?

No yankee fan here. Mets all the way. I am a giant fan and a whole bunch of my friends are eagles fans, which makes things interesting. I love Big 5 basketball, especially since I am at a Big 5 school (although I wish we were playing a little bit better).
