Any current students (or Pre-dents) out there that could give me a good comparison between these two Boston schools? I am trying to decide which one I should apply to. I don't want to apply to both as I am trying to spread out my application and not have to spend tons of $$$ if they are similar.

I have read on this forum that BU may be slightly easier to get in to than Tufts....

Which is better in your opinion?

Hey NCSMILES

Search for BU or Tufts in the dental forum and you should find plenty of hits and plenty of arguments.

Tufts rocks over BU in my opinion. PM me if you want more info. Apply to both if you really want to go to school in Boston just to be sure.

Good Luck!
Jessica

Actually I disagree, I am definitely impressed with the rumored APEX program that BU offers. From what I understand you will spend time in dental offices of practicing dentists around the area. That will definitely give you a feel for dentistry in real life.

I have heard from many people that the Tufts dental school is very well recognized in Boston. I think Tufts has a better reputation among the Boston community. But as far as the education is concerned I don't know if they are very different. I got accepted into both schools and I picked Tufts for these reasons:
1) The admissions people at BU seemed very unhelpful-the whole interview day was very disorganized
2) Tufts is located at a much better part of Boston than BU
3) Tufts seem to do a lot to improve the curriculum each year by listening to the students opinions.

It was a hard choice. But I'm very happy with my decision. I think I agree with you that BU is an easier school to get into than Tufts.

I personally think its silly to pay BU $40,000+ in tuition for you to spend time at a dentists office and work there. That doesn't really make much sense to me.

I have to agree that Tufts gets better recognizition but to be fair to BU people I have dealt with Tufts people more than BU people. So where are the BU people to make their case?

BU vs Tufts
NYU vs Columbia
UCLA vs UCSF
blah vs bleh
gabagaba vs gabagabahey

I hate these versus questions!!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY BUvsTufts.

Anyways, on to a more important question: Tyson Vs Ali who would win?

Is tyson wearing a muzzle? Shaky Ali or non-shaky? Just remember Tyson got clobbered by Buster Douglas!!!

Tufts is definetely better than BU. Tufts is a very good clinical school. BU does not have anything outstanding. Tufts is well recognized in many places. Also, BU's APEX program is a waste of time according to the doc who I work for, and he just graduated there. BU is much easier to get in though, the course load is very easy too.

Bickle, maybe not all of us know the answers to these questions. I think it was a legitimate question...that's the point of the forum to share information about things to help one another. Sorry to bother you....but then again, if you hate these questions, then don't answer them.

i didnt.... 😀

I chose to apply to BU over Tufts because I have worked with two different dentists at different times, which both were graduates of Tufts, and I was very unimpressed with their skills as dentists. The BU campus seemed much friendlier and up to date. I liked BU's program better, but you have to look at both programs and decide for yourself. I would not base my decision on cost because BU is a very giving school.

Wow....thats strange.....Tufts is known to have the better clinical education.....I talked with a BU grad last week, and she said that although the school was fun, her clinical experience was not great and she had to do a residency at Temple. Also she said that BU looks great on the outside, but on the inside will give ya a suprise...she compared it to a luxury car, which has a lot of fancy gadgets and looks great, but as you ride the car, you realize that all the fancy extras are not neede........that was her analogy......

I know a dentist who graduated from BU and he seems to be doing well. He has never complained once about the school, so it can't be too bad. On the other side, I know plenty of people that have chosen to go to Tufts over BU....have graduated and are doing awesome. These people say that Tufts has given them the best clinical training they could have asked for. But they have said that if you want to do research then go to BU...Does anyone know why?

if you want research goto an Ivy League school, no questions asked. Other examples of research powerhouses include Pittsburgh and UCLA......i dont know much about BU's research reputation.....

Both schools are great. I personally chose B.U. because I really like the faculty and the students there when I went for the interview. The price tag is pretty ugly, however its not that much different at Tufts.

Lets not bicker over dental schools! We will all get decent training no matter where we go!

Aurora- Look forward to seeing you in Boston!!!

Gatorfan.

P.S.- As far as college football is concerned, I think its pretty clear that the Florida Gators rule! 🙂
