Has anyone ever filled out a budget adjustment form at Wisconsin to increase the amount of aid offered? Are they pretty lenient about what they allow/approve? Personal circumstances make it so that I am not sure if the offered amount will be enough - it probably will but I don't like to not have any room for error. Medical bills, for instance, or travel to see family members overseas.

And yes I understand about compound interest and repayment terms etc., I don't need 8 people to tell me not to borrow more, or live on less, I just want to know how easily it is done. I already sent in the form, just fretting now I haven't heard anything back.

I think if you have documentation that indicates/supports your rationale for seeking additional financial support you should be able to increase your federal direct loan amount as it it supposed to cover up to the cost of attendance. I have been keeping track of my spending (groceries, gas, school supplies) for this reason (it also helps you budget/keep track of expenses, especially your nights out at the bar!). Not sure how it is at Wisconsin, but I think the process is fairly similar across veterinary programs. I would email/call for a follow-up as it couldn't hurt.

I know it's generally pretty easy if you need more money to provide for your family if you're normally the breadwinner. It is probably taking longer because your case isn't as straightforward and they need to consider whether your reason are valid.
