Need to get loupes but don't want to spend an arm and a leg since I'm planning on going into a specialty that doesn't use them and don't plan on needing them much after dental school. What's the best option that is good enough for dental school but doesn't break the bank?

You're a D1, presumably. Get decent loupes. You have no idea what or if you'll specialize.

This! You don't have to get the top of the line ergos or anything, but I would recommend getting a decent pair from a reputable brand. It will make your life so much easier for the next 3 years. Not to mention it will make the preclinical practicals easier which will help you get better grades to boost your residency app. if you decide to go that route.
