i just got an email from the school asking me to submit the order form. The cost of the articulator from the manufacture is $420, which I think is kinda expensive considering my budget, so I was thinking getting an used one on my own. Can we opt not to get one from the manufacture? I don't remeber I signed anything that agree to buy a articulator through the school in the acceptace packet.

you are out of luck, they will have you buy it. They do it so everyone has an the same articulator. You won't save more than maybe 100 bucks or so by buying used, you also risk buying one that is bent beyond repair. Our dental repair guys will help to maintain the articulators (they gave me a new one after 3 years because it was out of alignment and they were unable to fix it). Just buy it and don't worry about the money, it is the least of your worries. You will have to bend over more than once in dental school so you are best to just accept it with style.

wow, this post makes me a little angry since Buffalo is now charging 560 for the articulator. 700 for the magnification is probably also ballooned. I feel like I should be able to buy the equipment on my own as long as I obtain the same equipment everyone else is using.

700 for the loupes is cheaper than what I paid and a lot cheaper than those loupes are in the real world.

The school has made vast improvements regarding lowering your costs over the past few years...but there is no negotiation about some things, loupes, articulators, supply issue and computers included. So, get over it, its a few hundred bucks...a drop in the bucket over the course of your education.

predents: you haven't even started school yet and you're already up in arms over something. chill out or it's going to be a long, arduous four years.

👍Tis the season to be making a list of demands.
Think of all the money one could save by dropping out.

 On the one hand you have predents ready to increase their loan payments by thousands each month for decades by picking school X over Y over some vague notion of "experience"... and on the other hand we have predents irritated about $600 or $700 for a one time purchase of dental equipment you will use extensively in school and can use for the rest of your career. I don't remember how much I paid for loupes and I hardly use them in my office. But sometimes I do think "hey it would be nice to get some magnification in this situation" and I can get out the loupes since I already own them. I hardly use the articulator in practice but they definitely made us use them enough in school that you will get your money's worth.

hey now, make sure you note that the one crying about the upfront costs (me 😎) is not the one trying to justify excessively expensive schools for irrelevant reasons. Remember, I chose Buffalo. ;-) Buffalo is... cheap. 😀

ps - great sig
