Buffalo Interview - Where are you staying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I found one that was directly across the street from UB (Boulevard Inn and suites, or something like that) but the reviews on it were pretty unanimous in saying it was filthy.
I decided to stay at the Rodeway Inn and Suites in Amherst instead. It should be 4 miles away, which sounds manageable. Anyone know how the parking situation is, at the school?

Parking is not bad at all since you will arrive around 8am. It gets really bad at 9am-12pm. Let us know how the interview goes 🙂

Is the shuttle service that runs between the north and south campus reliable?

Does anyone else know where they're staying?

Interview has come and gone: VERY relaxed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. The school is everything you said it was, and more. It's absolutely great. I think I fell a little bit in love with it 🙂
Oh... I don't recommend the Rodeway Inn on Niagara falls Blvd. at all. It's close, but man, it's a dump.

PS: Good luck on your upcoming interview, Vallidator. I know you really wanted this one.

I was in there with you Inngu, yeh buffalo is a great school..... I believe getting into thier program (at the interview point) ALL has to do with how you impressed your interviewers. GPA and DAT are irrelevant at this point.

If you have an interview at buffalo, GPA and DAT are no longer an issue, its ALL about how you impress the interviews.

The interview in general wasn't bad at all, its more of a.... them asking you personal questions (typical stuff, why dentistry, etc etc) and just having a discussion with them.... Most of it was relaxed, but the professor who did my interview (he was an older man with a little accent) seemed like a nice goofy guy, but he wasn't giving me any feedback whether he liked what I was saying or not, he was just writing things down as I spoke.... Made me feel like I was saying something gawd awfully wrong lol... I dunno how to explain it

Overall, I liked the experience...

heyy i am from buffalo ny and there are some pretty good hotels around. im not sure about prices, but i know there are a lot of hotels right by the airport if you are flying in. also, there are a lot hotels on niagara falls boulevard which is really close to UB south campus where the dental school (about 5 min drive). just be careful when you book the hotel to make sure it is located near the school (niagara falls bouelvard goes to niagara falls, which is about 30 mins away). hope this helps! 🙂

ps: if anyone has questions about the area, i'd be happy to answer them :] i don't know too much about the dental school interviews, but any location questions or whatnot!

just pm me

Any info about the essay questions?

It is nothing to worry about.

This is mostly accurate, but with a caveat:

I can't remember whether it was Barbara or Rick who said this, but he/she said was that every interviewee is assigned an overall grade at the end of the day, where everything is factored in (including your scores). That said, if you have an interview, they've already determined that you were good enough numbers wise. So while they don't carry as much weight, your scores never completely become irrelevant.

Hey I just got back from my Buffalo interview and it was pretty awesome. I stayed at the Courtyard Marriot. I know you are thinking that that is an expensive choice, but they have a shuttle that will pick you up from the airport, take you to the dental school, pick you up from the dental school and take you back to the airport. That equals a lot of taxi money or car rental and the hotel is very nice.
The interview was really great. Everyone was very relaxed. The essay wasn't bad at all, the case scenario was a breeze and the interview was very chill. Anyone with an interview there will enjoy themselves I promise.

Does it make a difference if you interview on a Thurs or Fri? What's the best way of preparing for the Buffalo Interview.... advice if you had to do it all over again? Thanks

It's really basic stuff. Just know why you want to be a dentist, what you want from the profession, what you have to offer, stuff like that.

I agree with some others who said that it's soo laid back that it's hard to tell if they like you or not. It's too easy to go into info-dump mode when I think they're more interested in just having you relax and get to know your personality. If I could repeat the experience, I'd try to express more of my personality and less of trying to pack as much info into my answers as possible.

But, live and learn. I think having them as my first interview was a mistake, since I'm actually more interested in them than in other schools. I hope they take that into account in their ranking process. ie, they were my first interview, so it probably would have been my worst. Ick.

if anyone want to share a car or hotel on Sept 30-Oct 2, pm me🙂

Hey,

Did you guys get a thank you note from UB? It's funny the kind of stuff a worry-crazed mind comes up with to appease itself (or drive itself even crazier.)
Either way, I think it's a nice touch from them.

Hey, anyone want to swap their Buffalo Interview Date with me please? 🙂
If so, please PM me...

Would anyone be kind enough to give me some feedback about the 10-minute session with Dr. Brown?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah I'd like to know how that went for people. I'm not really understanding what the writing assignment and case based study are about. Are they both written assignments?
