I don't know if I can ask this question........

but, can anybody talk about the life style at Buffalo D-school?

I've heard this school is a really great institution. (Medical school, too!)

My guess is it's almost not recommended to go to NYC, as it's a long distance.

On the other hand, what about Chicago? (Not close??)

Really curious, and please understand I am not a person who thinks these things are in priority. 😀 But, they are good to know now!

I assumed Buffalo is a small town, and frankly I have only been there once when I was a kid. (NYC-->Niagara Fall)

However, it's also true that I am expecting that Buffalo is much better place than Ithaca. PLZ LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!!!

torontos like an hour away. buffalo looks boring though

Buffalo isn't a "small town" but it is no NYC by any means. I live an hour from Buffalo and know that it is the 2nd largest city in NY. Rochester, another beautiful city, is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Buff and Niagara Falls is about half an hour away. Toronto is closer to 2 hours away... I don;t know about it being "better" than Ithaca either. I'm sure they both have their unique qualities but there is not Dental School in the city of Ithaca so...

I actually go to UB as an undergrad. There's plenty to do here. In the winter you can go snowboarding, skiing, tubing.. etc. There's an ice skating rink 2 minutes from campus. Downtown is only a 20 minute drive.. with lots of bars, clubs, restaurants. Canada is 20 minutes away from campus. There's PLENTY to do here and I'm from NYC. Just make sure you have a car lol

Yeah, a car preferably with AWD or 4WD. If you are not used to snow............you're going to see alot of it come winter.

I can't believe Toronto is that much closer.
But, it's pretty good to know this.

Sounds like I have never been to Buffalo before except for when I was a kid.

Can anybody explain more about Buffalo D-school?

Facility, curriculum, NBDE scores, cafeteria (restaurants on campus), campus housing, life style, etc...........

1. Buffalo is not a small town (Urban area) --> Many places to hang around

2. It's very close from Toronto ---> Sounds really interesting

3. Their PBL interview is one-on-one style.

4. They have a writing test

5. Cold in Winter like Ithaca

Then, I need to know how it's like in Toronto near Buffalo or as a Buffalo D-student. 🙂

CAN ANYBODY???????

PS> I will continue to ask more about Buffalo via private message, so please give me a cue!

I'm a 4th year at Buffalo dental school. I have only good things to say about it. Yes, Buffalo itself is very boring, but the school is great. The faculty are very caring and considerate. They will always do their best to help you and treat you as colleagues. The clinics are nice as well. You get your own chair 3rd and 4th year and they are building a new SIM lab for incoming students in 2009. As they say, "It's the best bang for your buck" ~ 15K a year tuition...pretty cheap..

Buffalo has a great clinical program. We also get our own dental chairs which is nice, and you won't run out of patients. Curriculum is solid, so you'll learn everything you need to in your first two years to be ready to help patients afterwords. Students at the school are great, everyone is willing to help each other out. Profs are very friendly and understanding.
The city pales in comparison to other major cities with dental schools. You can't compare it to NYC or Boston or anything. The winters aren't as bad as people make it out to be, we do have a couple of monster snow storms up here, but other then that, you won't be snowed in or lose power for days at a time or anything...that's just ridiculous, lol. Food and Shopping is cheap here in buffalo (a car is recommended). Night life is still good, there are a couple of nice places in downtown to go to, and drinks are maddd cheap; so you can have a solid night for 25.00 haha.
If any of this doesn't help, then keep in mind the cheap tuition and the 200K you'll be saving as opposed to going to a big city school like NYU or Tufts, or Boston U =P

Additionally, I got information there are a couple of Korean food restaurants over there.

1) The only thing I want to know more is about how the city looks like compared to Ithaca. (Buffalo is way bigger and have a lot more places to go than Ithaca, isn't it?????????)

Ithaca town is a peaceful silver town. I would say the town is European style. (Belgium, Austria, Greece) ---> Just my imagination and guess; I have never been to these countries, though.

Anyway, Ithaca is a very small town and extremely cold & boring! Btw, people in Ithaca are really really nice and friendly for sure. 🙂 Food is also good there.

MY second questions is..
how long does it take to get to Bloor St.W from Buffalo?

Last question is...

is it easy to pass the national border? (Need any visa or permission?)

Toronto (the edge of it) is 2hrs away from the border. To get into Canada you're going to need a passport (if you're american), if you're from another country you have to check visa regulations for that specific country. Bloor st W is in downtown Toronto, so if you drive add another 1/2hr to 45 min for traffic, if you take a bus to Toronto (like greyhound) the terminal is downtown and you can take a short subway ride there.

Question for you: what makes you think that Ithaca is like a european town like in belgium, austria or greece if you've never been to one, lol.

In fact, I got these facts from another thread.

But, thanks for the asnwer regarding Bloor st W. Sounds perfect!

The answer to ur questions......

1. I have never been to Belgium, Austria or Greece, but I have stayed in Ithaca during my undergraduate study.

2. My imagination is based on...
a. Those countries have small but compact buildings..not a tall building..probably based on a few photographs.

b. The other clue is many people in Ithaca told me so about Ithaca.

c. The last clue is...there are many European restaurants in Ithaca
and the name of street and city remind me of cities in Europe.

d. Lastly, I said Ithaca is boring town. But, it's not because of the way city looks like. Instead, there are few places to hang around. And, it's also a rural area. 🙂

Thanks to several posters in this thread, I've come to really like this school.

After interview, I am now feeling this school is GREAT!

Btw, it turned out that Chicago is far away from Buffalo.

Hope to be able to continue my thread in December, too!
