Buffalo or Maryland
Started by macker13
I am completely torn between attending Buffalo or Maryland and would appreciate any advice or insight that could help me with this decision. I am out of state for both schools so cost really isn't an issue. Thanks!
Cost is an issue. You gain in state residency in NY after 1 year and the cost is reduced to in state tuition. So Buffalo will be the best choice for you.

How long does it take to become a resident of Maryland?
it wouldnt take less than a year and I dont think you can gain in state residency for Maryland. Call them and ask them.
Many OOS students at MD gain residency in their 2nd or 3rd years! (I would pick MD!)

OP should call the MD school and receive something in writing from them. I never heard of this for MD.

I have heard its very difficult to get MD residency.

This is not true, I am a D2 student at Maryland. OOS students have hard time getting residnency.
Lol, you can listen to a rando, a Temple dental student, or a Maryland dental student notorious for his supremely negative comments about his/her school....Or you could listen to someone seriously considering Maryland, who has heard this exact question broached to 2 MD faculty members, 3 current MD dental students, 1 MD financial director, and 2 MD graduates who have all said many people do it each year, especially with some "tricks."
Or you can listen to a senior student at UMB who has done it himself. It's possible but hard, a few (3-5) people do it every year. Lots of people are lazy and never try, but everyone I know who has applied (repeatedly) got it by 3rd year.

Case in point, go to UB and save yourself this headache. UB is an awesome school and so is Maryland, but I wouldnt pay more for the same schooling.
