these are my first and second choice. where do you guys think that i should go? thanks

the one that you get into. also depends if you prefer living in downtown Boston or Buffalo...

the state you live in might help that decision.,,,

Buffalo is a total of 44k a year while Tufts is around 110k if I am not mistaken. Also, I believe Buffalo has a reputation for being a better program. Not that I or anyone else thinks that Tufts is not a good program (I have heard nothing but good things). However, if you can get a better education or at the least a comparable education for less money, then there really isn't much of a decision to make. Unless, you factor in personal issues that only you can take into account when making a decision.

I'd go Buffalo over Tufts in a heartbeat. Think about all the money you are saving for the same great education. I also heard that you get your own chair at Buffalo?

I was accepted to both and the main reasons I chose UB over tufts were the following:

~Saving over 100K (remember that you can become a NYS resident after one year)
~I had a better feeling about the UB students I spoke with during my interview/later visit
~Getting your own operatory
~Preferring a smaller, extremely cheap city to Boston (which I'll probably move to after I graduate anyway)

As for the curricula and preparation, both are EXCELLENT schools and are well-known for producing extremely competant practitioners. Neither is a bad choice, but UB is a lot cheaper. Once you hear from both on Dec 1, you should take another visit on your own terms and talk to more students.

Right on! If I were offered admissions from both I'd pick Buffalo over Tufts for the same reason.
Plus I don't have to deal with the freaking traffic in Boston. Just look at the location of both schools in google maps. Tufts is situated in the middle of boston while SUNY Buffalo south campus there not high rises around.

Buffalo.

I live in Boston. But I'd much much rather go to Buffalo. For the quality of life.

I don't know if I want to settle in Buffalo permanently but at least if I get to go there I will have a relatively quiet 4 yrs.

Money Don't matter, you'll be taking loans anyways, just go to the best place possible... if harvard knocks on your door, go there.

Whats the difference owing 500,000 and 300,000 anyways?

you'll be paying it back like 500-300 dollars a month anyways

Great advice...

There is a huge difference in loan payments on a 300K loan vs. a 500K loan. Whoever told you that you would be paying $500 a month to repay your loans was screwing with you. Dentists coming out of school don't always make the real big bucks. Paying off large loans with a 100k salary can't be that easy. You may want to buy a practice when you get out, a home for you and your family. The less debt you have from school, the better. You don't want to be swamped down with school loans for the first half of your career.

Assuming an average interest rate of 7.5, 6.8, Stafford and 8.5, GradPLUS:

$300,000 = $2,097.64/month for 30 years

$500,000 = $3,496.07/month for 30 years
