buffalo waitlist

a friend has been waitlisted at buffalo. he was told that he was at the top of the list (by the way he's a fla resident). anyone have insight as to the timing on this....do they pick off the waitlist after the 30 day period the accepted candidates have to respond? or....do they continue interviewing and accepting students leaving those waitlisted to the very end?

I got my acceptance yesterday and I was given to January 5th to respond if I accept or not.

I was surprised by how fast buffalo wanted a response by. I guess that's good for those still awaiting acceptances from buffalo then.

Hi Dentalmom,

Buffalo aims to fill 15-20 seats with out-of-staters (including Canadians) each year. Your friend's chances of getting off that waitlist will depend on how many out-of-state acceptees respond with a deposit and how competitive his stats are to later out-of-state applicants.

If he has not heard anything by the end of January then I'd start worrying..

I am very frustrated with UB, everytime I call them they say that my application still under review or on hold !! it's been that way for three months??
Do you know what does that mean?????????

Hi Sallyubc,

UB looks to include 2-4 Canadians in every class, so it can be a bit tight yes... I'm not sure if they consider Canadian applicants separately at a different time than the U.S. applicants, but I'll ask Dr. Joynt and see what he says.

You got accepted to Case, right?

Yes I got acceptance to Case, it is a great school but i think if I get aaceptance to Buffalo, I would go there instead for many reasons!



That would be great if you can ask Dr Joynt what's going on??

Now this is merely what I've heard through the admissions committee grapevine (from some students who sit on that committee)...

UB is thinking about considering the Canadian applicants seriously a bit later in the interview process. Their rationale is that they often interview and accept Canadian applicants only to have the applicant bail b/c they got into a Canadian dental school. So b/c of these past applicants, they are waiting before they interview Canadian students who end up wasting UB's time.

Can't blame them. We had 2 students in our class bail after 1 year b/c they got into Toronto and Western Ontario as transfer students. And I remember it happening in the class below me - the student showed up from Canada to orientation and then was gone by the first week of classes b/c he had been accepted to Toronto. He must have been really hoping for that acceptance b/c the guy didn't even have an apartment when he came for orientation.

I totally understand!!!! This definitley makes sense... But in my case, I haven't even applied to any Canadian schools... Am just interested in US schools and especially BUffalo... Inaddition, once i get into the school I will never think of reapplying again 😀
I will be definilty happy with what I have...
SOOO, I wish if the school just gives me a chance, i am very very very very interested in Buffaloooo schoooool 🙄
