hey guys, i'm actually now seriously considering going to Buffalo. the only gripes i hear about it is about the weather. and from what i hear, it is relatively simple to establish residency there, paying cheap tuition. can anybody verify this? anybody become a NY state resident after a yr? did u have to buy a place, or was renting enough? thanks for any info

Yup, residency after a year and renting will do just fine. But you must start living in your apartment by Aug 1, so you are in NY for a full year by the time your 2nd year starts in order to get in-state tuition. That's what Barbara told us when I interviewed.

You should definitely consider Buffalo. I relocated from Boston to Buffalo this July, because I simply could not justify paying $41K per year to attend the private schools in the area. I thoroughly researched it, and you can most definitely become a state resident after 1 year. To confirm it, go to this link: http://src.buffalo.edu/studentaccount/residency.shtml

I can't comment on the weather, seeing how I haven't been here for a winter yet.

Cost of living is incredibly cheap. What would get me a studio in a crappy section of Boston allows me to live a king here.
