hey guys,
i took the exam few days ago...and disgusted by my QR scores...following are my scores
BIO 320
G. CHEM 330
PHY 360
ORGO 340
now the worst scores come
QR 290
RC 280

i was so drained by the time i got to QR and ran out of time...i knew i wouldn't do good on RC...so i'm not completely shocked but i got much higher score for RC in the opted exam...this is such a disappointment...
currently, i'm living in ny so SUNY is my priority but w/ these scores they won't even consider my...well I have plenty of experience in this field...i've worked for several optometrists for last two yrs...and my GPA is average...any suggestions or comments...

You could give it a try or contact them and see what they say.

I think they may consider GPA pretty heavily. So based upon what your GPA is, it could help you out. I was invited for an interview and they had not received OAT scores or LOR's.

I didn't do that spectacular on the OAT either. RC was my worst subject but I still managed to get a 310 which I think may be the min score in any subject to be considered. But I would still ask. I think someone here got a 290 or something on a subject and called them concerned about it and the admissions representative kind of laughed at them and told them not to worry about it.

Although those 2 scores bring down your AA, Whats your TS? It looks like it should be pretty good from the science scores you posted... 340?

FWIW, on the SUNY app, all they ask for is the TS.

My science scores at least are kind of similar to yours:

BIO - 360
OCHEM - 370
GCHEM - 330
PHYS - 320
TS = 350

with the exception of puerto rico, it's near impossible to get in optometry school with 2 sub 300 scores even with a stellar GPA. Keep in mind that most people who apply would already have worked/ shadowed several optometrists, in additional to other work and leadership experience. the only thing you can do right now is get a better OAT score, which shouldn't take you more than a month or two to do. g'luck.

No its not impossible. It depends on your AA and TS. I got 2 sections on my OAT sub 300 and currently have received interviews from ICO and SUNY with an avg gpa. It about everything, not just your OAT scores, but with sub scores you should apply very very early in the cycle to have a chance. YOu might have great OAT scores and ****ty LOR and that shows alot too so it all balances out. BUt i think it is essential that if you got a sub 300 on a sectins like RC you better have all A's in your eng classes from university.

woa, i am very skeptical about my scores now after reading several reviews...well i just applied to SUNY, n now in the process of applying to ICO,NECO and may be PCO...still working on these applications...it takes a while to fill out the applications n just my luck, my computer got virus and all of my docs. including my essay is on my computer...so i'm stuck for a while...

Don't let people bum you out more. They're trying to be realistic with you, but unless you're hearing these things from an admissions person, take it with a grain of salt. If you have other aspects of your application that can balance those sub-300 scores out (like high grades in English and math), then it might not even be an issue to some schools... I should hope the schools understand that everyone has off days and a single test does not draw the entire picture of an applicant.

Good luck with everything! Keep us updated 🙂
