I use both the 330 and 245. 330 initially and 245 to finish and for the drop box.
We don't have to memorize burs though, just use them. We started rubber dam placement today and that was a pain. No wonder dentists don't use them very often.
Sturdevant says (paraphrase) "You don't want to talk with your patient too much, so put a rubber dam on them and this will decrease your having to talk to them."
No joke! Rubber dam chapter...pg 700 something.
No love at all. 🙂What? No love the for the 56?

it's true..especially with children. you want to finish working on your patient and send them on their way.
you'll get better at it.

A lot of real-world operative dentistry is done with two burs--a 330 in the high-speed for initial preparation, a smallish (#2,#4) round bur in the slow-speed for caries excavation, and then back to the high-speed for finishing touches. Presto, ready to restore with minimal time spent screwing with your armamentarium.56's my bur of choice. 🙂 why do you need the ones that cut all those fancy walls like the 245 and the 169 when the 56 does it all and you don't even have to take it out! maybe dental school is making me lazy. 🙄
