Let's face it: the DAT is constantly changing and the PAT is getting much harder. 😡

We're going to post a few keyhole problems every week to readjust your eyes to something you might ACTUALLY see on exam day.

What do you think the answer is? Can you bust my keyholes?

**ANSWERS posted the next day!
**REPLY with your guesses. Debate is highly encouraged!

Bust it.

1) C
2) A
3) A

Hope they are correct.
These are good, but I think it would be better if it had a mix of views in a problem. It makes you second guess yourself and think, "Well that's really close, but that view is really close as well." With them all in 1 view, you can focus on the difference and determine which one is correct.

I think it's:

1.D
2.A
3.A

Someone said C for the first one but the right leg widens at the end so I eliminated that one...A and D seem to be correct..but in A the leg is too long and D is shorter so I think it's closer to the original image...

For the first one, it can't be D because the rectangle that sticks out should extend much further than that. The square part that sticks out sticks out much further than the width of the rest/arms. Answer D says that the square sticks out as much as the width of the arms.

I eliminated A because the very bottom line in answer A should not be parallel with the square.

ohh thats right...D is not the answer...I am not sure which one is between A-C for the first one..based on what you said with the line being parallel, B can be eliminated because the left leg's line is also parallel..but C just doesn't seem like the right answer to me because the right one gets wider and I don't see how that is corect..

With much debate - you guys got it right!
Below you'll find a 3D model to play around with, top/front/end views and explanations for each keyhole.
Let me know if you need any further explanations!

 We will put up a traditional/multi-view keyhole problem soon! Keep posted.

#1 is excellent, but still nothing crazy. Once you reconcile that they're slanted it sorta has to be B. Thanks!

A more traditional problem. Feel free to debate/discuss!!

Just a hint: your reasoning for why C is wrong is incorrect! (well... I've just given away that C is incorrect in the process). The proportions of the keyhole are completely fine.

Why is C wrong? Keep on discussing!

C is the silhouette for only the first face/plane (SE plane). The 2nd face/plane behind it (W plane) is larger and so if it were to pass through, the shape would have to be larger to accomodate. I think.

Edit: nvm, it looks like the top plane is parallel to the bottom plane so they're the same height

The only way I am ruling out C is if it's a hollow structure. Maybe there are other ways?

If it were C, shouldn't the top have an indentation in it similar to a V? But then it would look like D, so that's what I think it is.
