busted servers from hell

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There are about 4 websites that I visit, so when this goes down, 25% of my internet life is ripped away from me.

Ok guys …I don’t know what you make of this but I have been to 100s of websites and 100s of forums. Many of them had bad servers. SDN’s servers, however, are absolutely the worst of all. Does anybody know why that is the case here? on some days, the chances of accessing the forums seem to be not more than 50%.

I am also getting very frustrated. I think that this website offers a lot of information but it is sooooooooo slowwwww! What's up with this?

I wish I had a good answer - and like many of you I too get annoyed when things slow down around here - but I know that part of the problem is that the site's funding is predominantly through donations and the tight budget combined with ever increasing traffic often leads to problems.

Actually, a bit part of the problem had to do with one particular forum and a handful of extremely popular threads. The threads were being linked from outside sites, and the result was a crush of users beating down the database with requests, and crippling SDN for the rest of us. The problem has been addressed over the last few days and I, at least, have noticed much-improved performance as a result (even if it's still not where we'd like it to be). Hope that sheds some light.

Just out of curiosity, which forums/threads were so popular? I have a feeling some of us would like to see where all that lovely bandwidth was going.
