Right. Three weeks into O&G run and I'm like +pissed+

I'm down-under and seriously thinking about internal medicine-pathology joint programmes. Such as clinical haematology+haematopathology, endocrinology+chemical pathology, and infectious diseases+microbiology.

However one question that galls me....
"But aren't you just a lab tech then?"

And what's the difference between a microbiology PhD with clinical microbiology fellowship vs. a pathologist with clinical microbiology fellowship? I guess what I'm asking is, how much can a PhD with clinical fellowship can do, compared to an MD?

PhDs are kind of limited towards working in big labs (like large academic centers) if they are in a clin path speciaty. Most private practice have the regular path staff covering lab issues, and don't really need someone in the lab full time.

I asked my friendly future Molecular Pathologist, Dr Adam Smasher, a similar question about the difference between a Mol Patho with an MD and one with just a PhD. His answer: About $60 per signature. Advantage MD.

So, you lasted three weeks in O&G before breaking something? Hats off.
