I have a 3 button suit. How should i button it for my interview??

You have two choices . . . it can be unbuttoned when sitting or if you want to be a bit more casual. Otherwise the proper way to button it is to button the top two buttons leaving the bottom button open.

Whats next? A thread about how to zip up one's fly after taking a piss? 😉

Top two only, then unbutton while sitting down. 👍

I would at least button the top two or all three, i would not suggest not buttoning any of them.

No, never the third! Like a poster above said, you ALWAYS leave the bottom button undone.

this is true. but also, no one ever leaves a coat buttoned when sitting down. leaving you coat buttoned while sitting is as akward looking as butting all three buttons while standing (or both on a 2 button).

In America, we always leave the bottom one unbuttoned. I believe in other European countries they'd actually button all of them.

So yeah...2 top buttons when standing/walking, unbutton to sit down

I don't think I buttoned my suit at all throughout my interview. I don't think anyone noticed or cared.

actually from top to bottom - sometimes, always, never.

it is appropriate to button only the middle button on a 3-button, but it is not appropriate to button only the top button.

 I'm not buttoning mine up. While I certainly seek to present myself in a conservative and professional manner, I also want to be personal and approachable. I guess there's just something about the unbuttoned suit that seems more inviting, and less reserved 🙂

Actually there was a GQ article on how you should never button the TOP or bottom buttons on a 3 button suit and only button the middle. If i had my magazines around i'd give you a reference but you'll just have to take my word. 😉

Do yourself a favor a wear a nice cardigan

Does it take to figure out how to button a suit?
