I was wondering if anyone could tell me if buying textbooks on amazon.com is alright as opposed to sticking with the university's barnes and noble bookstore? I can't believe the price difference for some texts lol.

Thanks.

I buy most of my books off amazon now. It's a lot cheaper and if you sign up for Amazon Prime for students (40/year), you get free 2-day shipping.

that sounds like a good deal. is the free 2-day shipping available for the entire term of the membership? i was reading that its free for 6 months and then after that you start paying $40/year but shipping is still free?

yeah, they give you a 6 month free trial, then you start paying 40/year to get the free 2-day shipping.

Do people get their textbooks as E-Books?

I'm not sure, I see that there is that option for a lot of the texts, but I'm so used to paper that I don't know if I could switch over.

I wanted to ask about e books too. I got an iPad for school and was planning on getting books on there as much as possible.

used from amazon is the only way to fly.

i use craigslist mainly, but i have bought books from bookbytes, amazon, ebay, etc... most of the time ill type in the isbn on google then click shopping and buy from the site with the cheapest price.

never buy new if you can help it. buy books from wherever the price is cheapest. Don't be afraid to get the international versions of textbooks if you can find them as they are often identical to their US version but probably paperback. Don't underestimate the availability of books from upperclassmen.

amazon is good, half.com is good. try doing a google shopping search on the ISBN.

I would not rent or buy the e book version because I wouldn't be able sell the book back... But that's just me. I usually buy from half.com and resell after the term is over.

👍 to everything you said but especially international versions.

International versions are clutch. A brand new book for 1/4 to 1/5 the price will save you lots of $$$$.
