"C-" for Anatomy prerequisite? Will this completely hinder my admissions?

Hello, everyone.

I'm a little bit stressed out. I'm an undergraduate student going into my Junior year and I've struggled having to take Anatomy I twice. The second time my score was still mediocre being a "C-" grade. For most of the schools I want to apply to for admissions, they state that you need to have a "B" grade or 3.0 average in your perquisites. Is this absolutely mandatory? Or theoretically if I have high grades in all the rest of my prerequisites, outstanding GRE scores, great letters of reccomendation and work experience, is it possible that I can still be considered for admission?

If anyone has been in this similar situation or can offer some advice, please let me know. I can't retake this class again at my university and I honestly don't want to, so what should I do?

Thanks

Most schools require at least a B in both anatomy courses. Check each school.

How did you get a C- the second time you took the course? What's the most challenging part for you?

I'm going to be honest and tell you that getting a C- the second time in anatomy looks pretty bad on your application. You should have gotten at least a B. You will have to give these schools a darn good explanation why you could only get a C- in anatomy.

I'd hate to say it but Kevin here is right. You need to know your anatomy inside ant out for PT school. The hardest semester (so I've been told) is the first semester because your doing anatomy more so than you ever have before. Admissions is going to see this and definitely wonder. I think we are all kinda wondering what happened you second time...Were not here to bash you about it so don't worry. Most of us are here to help in any way we can. Was it that hard or did you have a bad professor or did you simply just go party too much?? lol Also, how are the rest of your grades and stats? If they are good and if PT is something you really want to do, I'd take it a 3rd time for the heck of it. But at that point, for a 3rd attempt, they aren't going to want a 'B' anymore. If your doing a 3rd attempt, it needs to be an A or bust. Maybe even consider taking it at a Community College? Check out ratemyprofessors.com and find a good professor. Sometimes it really is the professor that determines your grade no matter how hard you work.

STORY TIME: It happened to me with my Intro Genetics class. I was used to getting A's and B's until this class came. I went to the professors hours CONSTANTLY and asked him advice for his exams and how to study. I did just as he told me to and STILL could barely pass his exams... He was one of those professors with exams that had answers A-L to pick from. And of course he would put about 4 or 5 right answers and an ALL OF THE ABOVE answer and guess what? All of the Above was NOT right. He wants the MOST right answer out of the right answers...It was just ridiculous...lol I ended up barely getting a C in that class and two of my other classes suffered a half letter grade because of all the time I devoted that dumb class...(And then a year later, I find out that the only PT school that required this class dropped it from their requirements....so I lowered my GPA tremendously for nothing in the end...)

Why don't you try an A&p I and II class as a replacement?

Yep Big trouble buddy...most if not all schools require at least a C in pre reqs and some schools limit the amount of retakes. Sorry for being cold and blunt, I have my own demons as well to deal with so your not alone here.
Best bet, retake the course, shut down all unnecessary distractions in your life. Study so hard that you dream about the bicep femoris and you grow to love the supraspinatius and the other 3 rotator cuff muscles.
You can do it good luck!

hopefully you don't use that as an explanation to pt schools. "But mooom, I don't wanna!" If you can't get at least a B in anatomy in an undergrad setting, pt school anatomy will chew you up and spit you out.

You need to get at least a B in Anatomy to do well in PT school. DPT programs are mostly anatomy with a little extra stuff thrown in. Like applied anatomy.

A friend of mine got a D in physiology so she took an A&P class and they will be using that as her physiology grade! At my institution its 1 semester

If you can't take this at your undergraduate institution, would you be open to taking it online?

I took this course to fulfill the anatomy prerequisite:

http://www.une.edu/com/online/anatomy/

It is through the University of New England, and costs about 1300. The material was challenging and time-consuming, but I was able to schedule my own exam times. Prior to taking this course, I emailed several DPT programs making sure they would accept it. Many of the schools I emailed said they would.

I am unsure how programs view repeating courses. You might want to ask someone in admissions your question.

Just another option. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll take it all into consideration, and I think I'm just going to be straightforward and ask the admissions offices of my top choice schools on their criteria...
