I took a calculus class back in like 1997 as an undergrad at a community college and got a C. It was a summer class that I decided to take while going to Binghamton University, I kept dropping calculus at BU because I just couldnt do the math there. So, I took calc in the summer and ended up getting a C. It was one of those things where if you are a visiting student, only the credits transfer and not the grade. Well, now, I want to try to apply to medical school for the fall of 2006 and wonder if I should retake this calculus class? Is it worth it?

I plan on attending a post bacc program in the fall of this year and since I have already bio i, chem i, and phys i, I will be able to take some extra classes in the spring to fill up my schedule for full time study. Should I retake Calculus due to that C on my transcrip or should I concentrate on classes more like human anatomy and physiology and genetics? 😕 😕

Hmm. I think it COULD be worth it to retake it, just to show that you can rule the material now. But probably not totally essential.
did you take it at BCC? 🙂

if that was the only C on the transcript, id retake it.

i was in your shoes as an undergrad. i retook it, kicked ass, and got a letter of rec from the prof... this seemed to work out well for me

No, Calc is not the only C on my transcript. I have many fluctuating grades. I do, however, have a good upward trends in my grades. I took the calculus class at Nassau Community College during the summer when I was an undergrad at Binghamton University. I was not a top grade student, I ended up getting some C's on my transcript. Nothing I can about it now, I ended up with a 3.2 gpa.

If I get into this post bacc program, I will definitely retake Calc. Thanks guys.

Calculus isn't a make it or break it course, if you got a C then I'd leave it alone. Your other science classes, especially bio, are much more important. Since your grade have been on a roller coaster ride, I suggest taking upper-divs science classes that interet you and are sure you could do well in.
