So I'm taking a relatively light load this semester as I'm taking my MCAT at the end of the month. 14 hours. 11 of those hours (upper level biology) will be A's. I just found out that I'll be more than likely receiving a C in my Spanish 3 class. I'm applying this upcoming cycle.

Here's the back story -- took spanish online (HUGE MISTAKE), took a quiz online, went to hit submit and it said "You have been disconnected". So I call the company that hosts the online class and they reset the quiz for me. I go to retake the quiz, and realize that I have 2 minutes before the due date. Long story short, I received a zero on that quiz. The professor has been a nightmare, and even took it far enough to accuse me of cheating. This quiz grade was huge, and I just couldn't rebound from that. I feared a W would be devastating to my application.

I'll have in the neighborhood of a 3.42c and 3.51s. Scoring in the range of 29 on AAMC's, hoping to improve on that. I have like a 3.9 on my last 60 hours, and received A's in Spanish 1 and 2. My only B in almost 2 years was Biochemistry.

I'm totally pissed. I elevated this as far as I could in the Spanish department, but unfortunately my professor is second in charge. I feel helpless. I got all A's on every other assignment and test, except for the second test I got an 88. I honestly feel like I got snubbed here.

What's your take on this? I mean, I guess it's not a core science class, but it's the last semester before I apply. I think this looks awful.

Quit fussing; you'll be fine.

I should note, that my fear comes from a close personal friend being rejected from 3 DO schools this cycle (LECOM, NOVA, and ACOM) for getting a C in Anthropology his final semester. All three schools told him they saw that is a potential risk. He had 3.3c and 3.3s.

I really try not to be neurotic. It's just that I got off to a rocky start, and worked my ass off to bounce back from that. Lesson learned here, though. Online classes can be a huge risk of you have the wrong profesor.

Any class can be a huge risk if you have the wrong professor.

fill out your applications in flawless spanish--should balance everything out.

It's pretty much meaningless. Hell, I had a C in my capstone histology class my last semester. Was never asked about it, although I did discuss it in one of my interviews.

Yeah, I had a C in one of my senior biology classes my last semester. I got a total of four interview invites, attended two if them, in only one of the interviews did they ask about it, and I was accepted at both schools where I interviewed. I do wonder if it held me back from getting a couple more ii's.

In either case a C in Spanish shouldn't hurt you at all.

Thanks for the replies guys. I feel quite a bit better about it. It truly was an unfair circumstance, and I need to find a tactful way to explain it without coming off whiney.

I feel better too since I had a C in biochem.

LOL

I had an online grad class for public health and aced it. The professor was fantastic and was most helpful in quiz errors and prompt about emails. He even made our final optional.

If a professor sucks, they suck it is not always the fault of the student.
