Hi.
I am a junior and planning to apply next year.
So far, my GPA and PCAT score are solid, overall 3.52 with 96 percentile with essay score of 4. (science/math GPA is around 3.8 ish)
However, one of the issues is that I got C- in one of my five college writing classes, and the one that I got C- is the first sequence of my writing class. I have shown improvement in next four classes (no more C-, C nor C+).

Most pharmacy schools I am planning to apply require us to take two quarters of writing class. However, among five english classes that I have taken, I have one C- and B or B-s on rest of them.

Do you guys think I should retake one of my english classes even if I have four quarters of english classes (excluding the C- one)? And if I have to retake, then is it okay to take it during WI 14, the period when the application deadline is over? (it's only offered on winter quarter and I did not sign up that class for WI 13 because of so many waitlists)

Since your GPA is good and your PCAT is really good, I wouldn't retake it. If it was Organic chem I would, but it's English. That's more opinion-based though, so don't just take my word. Also, if you do retake it, do it in a term that the adcoms will actually see the grade. It sounds like this wouldn't really be the case for Winter 14.

With that GPA and 96 on your PCAT I wouldnt even worry about it.

Make sure you double check the websites of the schools you are applying to. I know at least one of mine says that prereqs must be completed with a C or better and they specifically say no "C-"s. BUT..if this is outside of your eng. comp 1/eng. comp 2 sequence (which it may be since you said this was your 5th english quarter?) or if it is otherwise is not listed on the prereq list for the schools, then I would say don't stress and just move forward with your other classes.

This is my comp 5 sequence class (Our college requires HUM 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 for graduation). And I screwed very 1st one. That means I still have 18 quarters of english class....

Can you take the class maybe over the summer? I don't think a C- is that bad, but if you have to re-take it over for pharm school then do it.

I wish I can, but I cannot because it is only offered during winter quarter.

Most of the schools I have seen require 8 semester credits (12 quarter credits)--I think you should e-mail admissions of some potential schools so you don't retake it if you do not need to.

PLEASE do not retake. Ive got accepted with Cs in all my english classes. English is important, but a C is not worth retaking esp if its in english. Maybe retake if you got a C in orgo or something. GL

Don't waste your money, they don't care much about english. I got C's in my english class and score really low in my reading comp. and still got accepted into all 3 schools that I applied to.

I emailed admission committee few days ago and they replied today.
They said I do not have to retake it because I have four additional english credits that sufficiently satisfy english requirement (8 quarters equivalent).
Thanks for the constructive comments and advice.

As long as you have C's or above in the required pre-req classes, I think you'll be okay. Since you've taken three other English classes and gotten above a C, don't worry about this one.
