I currently have a 3.55 cGPA
But at the end of my sophmore year, I had just about a 3.0 GPA...
I scored a C+ in bio and Chem 142, received a C- in organic chem 2nd semester. Pretty much, I messed up bad~

I messed up my first two years, and really got my act together. I took summer sessions and worked really hard the past two years to raise my GPA.
I took difficult courseloads, and aced Numerous biology classes. I was able to ace Biochem as well.

I was wondering, is it in my best interest to retake that C- in organic chem? I heard a lot of universities don't even accept the grade unless it is atleast a C.

Yes that is true, most universities from the ones I looked at in Chicago area both (M.D. and D.O.) do indeed require at least a C. Looks like your going to have to retake it (if your Undergrad University will allow it)

You're correct. Most (all?) med schools require at least a C in pre-reqs. You'll need to retake it.

Not sure but I thought that the for the AMCAS C- = C = C+ is that not right?

Either way, if you can take O chem again and ace it, not only will it bring up your GPA, it will help silence any doubts that you cannot handle the course work.

Yeah, I'd retake it to make sure you meet the C cutoff, though I would aim to get much higher than that.

Retake it, you'll do a lot better the second time around, and it will look completely acceptable on your application. 😀

Get OChem As A Second Language, use the Internet for additional resources, and re-take (and destroy) OChem next semester! :luck:

Definitely retake.

How bad does it look when you retake a class? What if you retook two?

You don't really have a choice to not retake a C-, you are required to have at least a C. Not retaking it means you don't meet the minimum reqs for acceptance and have no chance, if you retake it and get at least a C you have at least some chance.

a little bit off subject... but i took business classes my first two years and absolutely despised them. i was too scared of the commitment of 8 years of college/med school.

i've got my act together now, but several of the business classes I made C's in... I'm retaking one per semester right now and making A's... Will all of those retakes look bad or good?

Will acom be okay with C's in business classes as long as my science classes are all A's/B's??

This is something that's tearing me up.. I worry about it all the time... and worry if I'm spending all of this time in bio and chem just to get a rejection letter from a MD school because of my record my first two years of school...

Hello, retaking the course is important because, according to some admission committees for med school, organic chem is a great indicator of your success in the first two years of medical school. 🙄
