So, I think I saw a similar thread, but it might have been for last year. What are your summer plans before starting this fall??

My plans:

Finish this semester (so long, undergrad!)
Figure out financial aid
Figure out housing
$AVE $AVE $AVE $AVE
Get a few titles on my dog
Get my mother's new house all in order (lol-- we moved about 18 months ago, and I had all sorts of lovely plans on making the house beautiful... mostly hasn't happened yet)
Have a great fantastic barbecue for all the family friends we haven't visited with since we moved
Get my dogs' vax records all in order
Get my vax records all in order
Psyche myself up for this dang rabies series
Get killer legs at my job and slim up a bit-- yeah!
Cross off a few things on my bucket list
RIDE more... I think my horse's brain is rotting.

That's pretty much it. I'd like to get all the school-oriented stuff done ASAP so I can relax and pretend that my life isn't about to go crazy.

What about you??

Buy furniture for new unfurnished apartment
Study vet terminology flash cards that some 2014 people recommended
Try to learn future classmate's names from FB
Learn to draw blood
Get into shape, or some semblance of it
Do NCSU's online anat/phys course for accepted students

Busy summer 🙂

My plans are...

Get undergrad DONE!!!!
Work and try to save as much as possible
Get in a lot of backpacking and camping while I have time
Spend time with my SO and his dog (because I'll miss them once we start long distance)
Get my cat microchipped in case my new housemates somehow let her out (doubtful but I'm still taking the precaution)
Take a vacation with my family
Spend probably one of my last non-vet school oriented summers
Get in shape so that I have motivation to not get/ a little wiggle room for any stress weight gained my first year 🙂
Think about how excited I am
Read as many books for fun as I can outside!

Dear class of 2015

Take me with you!!!

🙁🙁🙁

That is all.

Leave my current job and work at my old job for a few months
Finish my nutrition class through OkState
Go see Dispatch in Atlanta!!!
Visit my bff and soul mate in Atlanta!!!
Visit family and friends in New England
Eat awesome food
Try to get in shape while eating awesome food
Go to a couple of weddings
It should be a relatively wonderful summer

I ain't workin and I graduate in a month, so!

Vacation time
Painting/fixing in the house
Reading books like mad
Watching seasons of shows on Netflix
Continue c25k to completion and then have a weekly running routine
Also a couple weddings
SLEEP

That's pretty much it. 🙂

Sell house
Finish up at work
Buy new house
Move my crap
Take the NCSU online course
Scout out multiple routes to NCSU to avoid traffic in the morning
Start running again
Dive my ass off
Get my instructor rating

So, I guess compared to everyone else, I'm going to have the impractical and over-indulgent summer. But I'm pretty much convinced I won't have time to do anything fun for the next 4 years, so I'm gonna pack in as much as I can while I still have time.
My list:
- a month hanging out with my boyfriend in Portland and watching him graduate, visiting friends in Seattle, visiting boyfriend's mom in Spokane
- 3 weeks visiting/backpacking/camping in Yellowstone, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks
- 5 weeks thru-hiking the 485-mile Colorado Trail
- drive back to the east coast, get the stuff I still have in my parents basement, drive up to Mass, find an apartment/room to live in if I haven't found one already, hopefully get unpacked before classes start (although I never really seem to manage that one...)
- maybe visit my grandmother in South Carolina

So yeah, definitely foregoing the "work and save money" thing...but I figure if I'm going to be $200k in debt, a summer worth of working isn't gonna make a whole lot of difference in the end. And I see my time hiking and traveling as essential for my mental health 😀.

I am in awe of your plans to thru-hike 485 miles in 35 days. This is what that would look like for me:

"YAAAAYYY THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!"

Day 1: "Going great!"

Day 2: "Ugh... I'm tired."

Day 3: "Keep going."

Day 4: "MOM PLEASE COME FIND ME"

I also forgot... I need to go to ALL the doctors... bleh. I want to get them all on schedule for the summer.
I need new glasses, and want to get myself some prescription shades.
I need to go to the dentist, but I want to get a bite block as well. I have TMJ and it only gets worse during times of stress and I clench my teeth. I had a fabulous bite block, and I think my dog ate it. So I need a new one.
I need to go to the ENT and see if she will up my allergy meds.
I need to go, I guess, to the PCP first and see if they will write me a referral for someone to figure out what all this blood sugar stuff is about.

And the girl-stuff doctor.

BLEH.

Eat 🙂 Particularly sushi and ice cream
Work-out--i.e. lose winter study weight!
Work--but not too hard 😉
Hang out with my pets!
Get through that Netflix list!
And try not to think too hard--it's all about relaxing the muscle (my brain) right before the big race day (vet school) 🙂

i'm getting my a dental done on my 9 year old great dane x while i still have an income and a discount at my vet!! 😀

In the next 4 months, I plan to:

-get my braces off
-graduate
-get a duplex and move
-reserve a wedding reception location, and do other wedding planning
-do that whole rabies vaccination thing
-run with my fiancé and dog to get in a routing before school starts
-go on a roadtrip with my fiancé during his last real summer
-attend a wedding or two

Thank you thank you thank you for reminding me!!!!!
Dentist, girl doctor, eye exam (new glasses), allergy meds, all KINDA important before vet school! 🙂

Same, esp since I'm going to school in the UK, I may not see a dentist unless I come home lol. I could find a dentist I guess, but I wouldn't know where to start lol. Def need to find an OB/GYN ASAP for BC pills and find a doctor incase something happens haha. My boyfriend and I are going to Paris for my birthday (mid August) 😀 Oh before I move to the Uk tho I'm working my BUTT off to get some money for the move, since I hear loans don't deposit till at least september lol. Need to have something to live off of for a while! Other than that, need to just get my tan on! And lay around 😀

Ride my horse A LOT
Move to a new place (with the horse!! SO EXCITED!!)
Try out Agility with the chihuahua (2 lessons so far!)

NOW. If I can figure out a way to get some extra cash (not likely!)
I want to
1. See the Grand Canyon
2. Visit San Diego
3. Quit my job and RELAX

Well, I'm still waitlisted so it will be a couple weeks before I know anything definite, but current plans are:
Finish my last prereq
Work through about mid July
Finish up with dog training clients
move
do some shadowing
study some vet terminology flashcards I got
and spend as much time with husband and dogs as I can
Plus drs appts which I'm not looking forward to.

Gradute
Work and save
Dog and self to respective doctors
Rabies titer
Paperwork
Get rid of unnecessary stuff before moving! This will probably be my biggest overall project.
New stuff - laptop, jeans, ??
Move!

There are so many little details but I won't copy/paste my word document here 😀 It's exciting but also nerve-wracking. I'm really glad I don't have to worry about a waitlist and can just get on with what needs to be done! I wanted to take a vacation to the ranch I used to visit frequently over my youthful summers but I just don't think I'll have the money 🙁 Boyfriend will be helping me move up to the Great White North, though, and we'll be having somewhat of a vacation while unpacking and getting me situated.

My first summer in 5 years!!!!!! (and probably the last in a very long time 🙂).

Actually, my first summer ever, since I've always either been in school with several part time jobs, or full time work +.......so I'm gearing up to have the BEST SUMMER POSSIBLE. Quitting work soon (haven't given notice yet, so it's a secret) -but here are my plans for the best summer EVER.

1. Pick up my puppy
2. Build a fabulous horse shelter that will NOT result in my horse standing in mud.
3. Find a couple tons of grass hay at a good price.
4. Rehab my horse back from a soft tissue injury (lots of slow trail rides).
5. Backpacking trip onthe skyline to sea trail
6. Bluegrass festival
7. Pismo camping trip
8. Climb pikes peak and visit art museums/zoo etc. in CO
9. Move all my crap to my new home.
10. buy a commuter car
11. Stock up on litter and all non-perishables
12. Dressage show
13. Find an irobot for a good price (deal is with my SO is that vaccuming is my chore - whether I do it, or get something else to do it with me - since I am adding a dog and cat to the household - already 2 dogs there - AND I'm bad about tracking dirt and hay into the house bc of the horse).
14. Update my website so it's more fabulous.

Wooooohoo summer!

I've got a few trips planned: two Scotland with my mother (also partly a scouting mission for my move there in July), to Arkansas with two friends to visit our other friend and her new baby, up to visit my boyfriend's family and go sailing.
Also have a bunch of horse shows planned with the Big Dumb Thoroughbred for what is probably my last season in a looooooong time.

Otherwise, just busy working and worrying about waitlists vs moving to the UK for 5 years. eep!

Ahhh for the lovely summer of 2011 I plan to:

-Finish the experiment from hell (Metabolomics experiment, 4 weeks of intense hell, thousands of blood and urine samples = AHHH!)
-Reward myself after experiment from hell by doing nothing 🙂
-Many nights chilling on the terrace in Madison, watching the sunset
-At least one Brewers game. I haven't been in years!
-Dogs + Lakes = tired dogs, and happy me!
-Present research at the national animal science meetings in New Orleans
-Go on a fun trip, somewhere, somehow, with non-existent money (Money just materializes, right? You don't have to make it or anything, just be a good person, right? haha)
-Camping
-Basically just enjoying myself until my life ends in vet school 😀 Kidding. Hopefully.

Well at first I was going to just sit back and relax, but then I changed my mind and now I'll either be in Japan helping out with the Earthquake/Tsunami efforts for animals there...or I'll be at the research internship that I'm applying for!
We'll see 🙂

~finish semester
~run a half marathon/a couple of other road races that I have yet to find...

Ahhhh...this summer is going to be the BEST. 😀

My summer is going to be far from exciting...

-Graduate (want to have MPH in hand before starting down the path toward DVM)
-Evict current tennant in my house (no lease was set up- she originally said she'd be there till December of 2010.... it's now April....)
-Do a thorough deep cleaning of my house (and get it ready for fall 🙂 minimal repairs and upgrades need to happen....)
-Weekend vacations (since I don't get vacation time at my job until the month before I will be leaving)
-Garden
-Work more on spinning yarn (new-found love.... trying to convince my BF to let me get sheep.... he says no... something about being within city limits...)
-Ride in Bike to the Bay (a 150 miler.... should be fun!)
-Move
-Quit my job (YAY!!!!)
-Lose 20-30 lbs before being in my friend's wedding a week before school starts.... (fun trip to WI before school starts)

Last summer my boyfriend and I went on a month long trip to South America. We were hoping to plan another trip this summer to Costa Rica and Panama but that doesn't look like it'll be happening. So in lieu of that here's everything else I'm hoping to do/will do:

-Work as much as possible in the next few months
-Attend my brother's high school graduation
-Spend some time in NJ visiting family while I'm up there for his graduation
-Take Animal Nutrition and Animal Science through Oklahoma State
-Begin my MPH courses online through UF starting in May
-Clean out my closet and go shopping for more clothes (I've been really lazy about shopping in the past few years and it's time to refresh the closet.)
-Try to enjoy South Florida as much as possible before moving up to Gainesville
-Maybe sneak a short vacation to the Dominican Republic in to replace the Costa Rica trip
-Paint the ugly furniture I have
-Exercise!
-Spend as much time with my boyfriend as possible, he's trying to find a job outside of the state so he could leave at any time
-Find an apartment and move to Gainesville

Get a few titles on my dog
Just wondering what kind of dog you have and what titles you are aiming at;-) My summer is highly dependent on if/when my dogs and the cattle cooperate to finish their working championships

I have Border Collies. I have a five year old bitch that I have been working with for... well, five years... but college got in the way and I've not gotten anywhere with her. I need to get her CD and RN.

LOL, like I've said, we've not gotten anywhere. I may get a few of my other ladies out of retirement and just do some fun stuff as well.

What I'd really like to do is skip the trials and just go backpacking and kayaking with her 😀

That's neat about the herding... we use ours on the ranch but haven't trialed any at all.

Well good luck with the CD and RN then! I am sure she can do it in just a couple trial weekends and give you plenty of time to kayak;-) ASCA just started a rally program so I am contemplating trying some trials...it looks fun! Ty has his CDX and some UD training so should be capable of that. Really wish I didn't have to miss Nationals (in my home state) this year or I would be doing a lil bit of everthing there with everyone but the two old coots;-)

Ha!! I TOLD MY MOM that ASCA had a rally program!!!

We trialed in ASCA before AKC because my mom had some bad experiences with AKC and was too bitter to let my sister and I compete

She's over it now, but I LOVED ASCA trials. I was the only junior at several of the kennel club trials and the only one with BCs, so they would always get me nifty BC things for high junior. I got a lovely stuffed BC that still sits on my bed.

Anyway, I wanted to try Rally so my mom finally gave up and let me do AKC, BUT I am def. checking into the new program with ASCA... perfect!

Nike is actually trained up through CDX and RA, but we've just not gotten to the trials and I'm not sure I trusted her enough to pay the money before I started college. Now, of course, she's through with alll the puppy sillies, so if she blows something it's my fault :-D

Since this is my last couple of months in Boston, I am trying to make the most of it. I have already started my "summer vacation". I am not waiting until I am done with undergrad:laugh:. But this is what I plan on doing from now until vet school.

-go to more concerts (I have one tmw night 😀)
-go watch the Celtics!!! :luck:(Have 5th row seats for Game 1 in the playoffs which I am SUPER excited for!!!! Gooooooo Celtics!!!
-get all my doctor stuff in order (rabies, eyes, etc.)
-Graduate undergrad!
-have a huge graduation/going away party!! I will be leaving everyone I have known for the past 25 years 🙁
-move to SC for the summer to be with my parents and ponies😍
-ride my horses!!
-get in shape
-build/paint jumps for my new riding ring
-RELAX!!!!!
-Then on my way to vet school!!!!!!! So excited and nervous at the same time.

It is VERY new and I believe the official debut was at the 2010 Nationals in TX in October. I think AKC had it about 3 years before we put our program into effect. I fear it will put the final nail in the coffin of formal obedience trials though....with agility, we already have extremely low entries. I am SO glad to find someone who knows ASCA! You should try some of the stock trials if you get a chance...if you work them on the ranch they should be able to do started without even blinking;-)

LOL, when I started showing, I was the oddball with the Border Collies. Everyone else had Aussies... so I just showed with them. It was easier to deal with (and CHEAPER) and tons of fun.

I hope the obedience trials don't die off completely, but I imagine people will flock to the Rally for a bit. Most of my CD's are actually through ASCA, not AKC. I wish people were more into obedience altogether.

We wanted to do stock dog trials with the BCs, but we got kinda burnt by our local herding club. Nike is actually blue and white (not merle, self blue) and one of my other dogs has a blue eye. WELL these folks with the borders who belonged to the herding club are die-hard anti-other events, anti-AKC, anti-weird colors (read: anything other than b/w), anti-blue eyes, and apparently anti-newcomers. We stuck it out for about a year and finally just gave up.

And that's where ASCA came in... happy helpful people and we were able to avoid the whole ABCA/AKC war for awhile.

Anyway I traded a lady several years of hoof care for formal herding lessons that I have not yet used, so I may just bite the bullet and carve them into my summer schedule.

Yay, excited for my first and last summer of not being in school or work! Goodbye income, hello spending, but I've been itching for this forever and this is my best chance to take a big trip before I get sucked into school.

- leave my job in a month
- find housing and roommates for school
- spend a week visiting my family
- spend a week visiting my best friend
- 2.5 months in S America - 3 wks volunteering with kids, 1 month at a wildlife refuge, and time in between traveling around to Lake Titicaca, Salar de Uyuni (huge gorgeous salt flat), visiting a dinosaur area that hasn't been taken over by tourists yet, and exploring around
- go to Ikea and buy cool things to make my house pretty
- hang out with my dogs who live with my mom
- move + settle in to Davis
- start vet school!!!
