Hopefully I can hold the IV drugs until the baby is out. I use ketamine mainly after the baby is out and my fentanyl and valium haven't got mom under control.

Gee thanks - wait - WTF? - am I old?

Valium - ancient wonder drug - about the only place I still use it is OB. Now I know everyone will tell me that Versed doesn't have retrograde amnesia, but I still think it does, and that's why I use valium since it supposedly doesn't. No flames please, no literature citations. And as for the long half-life...what's your point? 😉 As implied above, I'm an old fart, stuck in my ways, and I ain't changing now.

No flaming from me. You are respected here. If you wanna use valium, and it works, its just another testament to how many ways one can skin a cat in this bizness.

And I never "swatted" at them, I have disagreed with them....and only called names in responses to derogatory comments about me.

I have essentially ignored all the NiteCaps out there.

Me too, Mil. 😀

We're in the 21st century....only a racist would say a thing like that.......You can't suggest that there may be differences due to genetics.....the different metabolism rates MUST be due to the subjugation the Asians experienced in the 20's building the railroads out west.

why would we have built railroads in the '20s if we already had cars by then? someone needs to brush up on their US history before they make smug remarks.

you are the ultimate racist military.. from those comments you made about 6 months ago... I wonder if the good folks who own your hospital know how racist you are.. because if they did.. i think you would be out on your ass looking for another job... maybe doign your own cases..

You're just upset because I made comments about how our profession is falling apart because of a certain breed of anesthesiologists.....and somehow, the profile I described fits you.

honestly, I'm not picking on you....It's not my fault you fit the profile.

The intercontinental railroad was completed in 1869. The old promontory summit golden spike thing with the asians from one side and the irish from the other. Although there were automobiles by the 1920's most of intercity transportation and freight delivery was still via the railroad (98% and 77% respectively in 1916 though). In fact, 1915-1945 is considered the golden age of the railroad. In 1920 the railroad sector was the largest employer. The interstate highway funding didn't pass until sometime in the mid 1920's (1924 I think). I would imagine that most of the people with cars went back to riding the train in 1929 anyway! The railroad was also one of the first industries to rebound from the depression. The history of the railroad is super interesting.
Seriously, i think it was just joking around not smug remarks - is May like the official can't take a joke month or what? They have a month for everything these days.

when i was a medical student in the mid nineties.. anesthesia was not even considered my anybody as a specialty of choice. You were considered a loser if you considered anesthesia.. Only the people who had nothing else to do did anesthesia and thats exactly what happened to me. I had nothing else to do. I really did not apply myself in medical school and ended up in the bottom ehalf of the class. and i still got it I freakin dig what i do totally. But i can see how medical students who spend years studying want to play a larger role in their patients lives.. Most patients dont even know my name. But I am happy to see that the top students are considering anesthesia as a career choice.. Shows how far we have come. and where we are going.

this one.

so i was at the bottom half of my class.. and that means what? not everyone can be like you.. and its true... I got into anesthesia because i had nothing else to do.. does that make me not as good as anybody else. i think not you racist snob

SDN, you are a great example of why pharmacists rock. You definitely are not "intruding" on the forum...any rational posts based on solid evidence are welcome here. MilMD and Zippy are just razzin' ya a little...I guarantee you didn't offend. If I remember correctly, they have both caught flak from other posters for making comments about the differences between races, hence the snippy comment. When you're talking about differences in P450 metabolism of drugs it's a lot less controversial than, say, talking about differences in IQ. [NOT trying to bring that topic up again, though!]

Ascending-from-the-dead this thread to show you mo-fo's SDN's contribution to this forum....we need all types here, folks....aside from politically-motivated trolls....and her contributions educate us.

I agree and I am afraid I may have been the one to finally chase SDN away (I hope not). I considered her a great asset to the forum and would have never attempted to drive her away but unfortunately we didn't agree on a topic and she lost interest in this forum. I hope she will decide to return someday soon.
