Cadaver dissection at Case?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not sure about Case in particular, but from what I've heard most every dental school that's connected to a med school does cadaver anatomy. I hear that once you learn it on a cadaver, you don't forget it! Haha.

Don't worry, I'm sure that once you start the dissection you get used to it.

My tour guide said you don't actually do the dissection. I think you just look at cadavers that have been dissected already to show what you are looking for, either way they don't "waste time" trying to find a small nerve that you might damage in the process of finding. Again, this is just what I was told by a current student.

Everything is prossected. You spend minimal time in anatomy with everything below the neck. Then you have an 8 week head and neck anatomy class where you spend more time in the lab. I think it is better because you dont waste anytime dissecting. If you are interested in dissecting you can be a prossector your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year.

Do you study with cadavers at Case? do you actually do dissection? how much lecture/lab time?
i am not looking forward to this...

The time you spend in the cadaver lab is minimal at Case. I'm in my first year and I've only been in there roughly an hour at this point with maybe another hour to go...so not too bad. As Dr. Rex stated, everything is already prosected and the instructors point out the important parts, you are not required to touch anything if you don't want to.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the anatomy lab, it's not a big deal at all. Good luck to ya!

That sucks! Man I was the biggest chicken walkin into lab, yet that is where I made some of my best memories. Learning while working on the cadavers is the best. It sticks with you. When the power tools get going that is a smell and sight you will never forget.
