Hello, can anyone share there experience with using caffeine pills on the MCAT ? I don't drink coffee or tea usually but lately for practice tests I drink a cup of tea before hand. I am thinking of getting into caffeine pills.

please share your experiences. i am more interested in dosage and when one would take them because i don't know how long they take to kick in.. for example if i take one between PS and VR would it kick in for VR or BS

Mthe dosCat?

da heck is going on here

It'll take only <15 min to kick in. I wouldn't suggest more than 50mg of caffeine pills (break it up).
Although overall, I think caffeine on the MCAT is a very bad idea. It'll kill your critical thinking skills. Stay away from caffeine for the 3 wks b4 your mcat. Unless you can't because your mcat is close and/or you are too used to caffeine, you might as well take a little so you don't have withdrawal on test day.

Eh I would disagree with the above advice and say stick with whatever you feel comfortable with. If you're a coffee person, drink coffee (almost) every morning when you study and then make sure you have it on the morning of your MCAT. If you don't want to be caffed up on test day, avoid it before. I would suggest staying away from too caffeine so, if I were you with the caffeine pills, I would take a small amount. I'm a coffee person so I get my morning coffee every day and I wasn't about to change that for MCAT prep or for the MCAT itself 😛

Either way, make sure you set up a routine using the pills (during regular studying, preferably even during AAMC practice tests) and use a consistent amount to make sure you feel comfortable.

I agree with the above post. I've been using caffeine pills for about one year, helped me get through pharmacy school! Treat them like coffee, something you take on a regular basis to keep the levels consistent jn your system. Don't just start using them on your exam day, you'll feel anxious and won't be able to focus. I still take them everyday- it gives me a boost of energy. I buy the oblong type white tablets from Walgreens Bc it makes it easier to split in half. I'll only take half in the morning and half after lunch. That's 100 mg per dose. Don't take one too late Bc then you won't be able to sleep. Caffeine has a short half like anyway! And of course stay well hydrated so you won't strain your kidney if your on other meds🙂 good luck!
